Reconsidering the usual suspects in age-related hematologic disorders: is stem cell dysfunction a root cause of aging? The global trend toward an increasing aged population demographic raises significant societal challenges, particularly concerning health. As organisms age, progressive tissue dysfunction increases the...

Very early days, but delighted that our recent review on reevaluation of aging hematopoiesis published in Experimental Hematology, official journal of @isehsociety.bsky.social is classified as highly cited by web of science. Open access here: www.exphem.org/article/S030...

Somatic mutation and selection at population scale - Nature A new version of nanorate DNA sequencing, with an error rate lower than five errors per billion base pairs and compatible with whole-exome and targeted capture, enables epidemiological-scale studies of somatic mutation and selection and the generation of high-resolution selection maps across coding and non-coding sites for many genes.

Our latest work is out in Nature today. In this paper, we introduce an improved version of NanoSeq, a duplex sequencing protocol with <5 errors per billion bp in single DNA molecules, and use it to study the somatic mutation landscape of oral epithelium in >1000 people www.nature.com/articles/s41...

When women researchers publish, media attention doesn’t always follow Men-led papers receive more media coverage than women’s, new study finds

In an analysis of 1.2 million news stories about scholarly research, men-led papers were found to receive more attention overall and were heavily overrepresented in the top 5% of most covered studies. https://scim.ag/4o7l5a5

Optimizing stem cell infusion timing in the prevention of acute graft-versus-host disease Adjusting the timing of stem cell infusion can reduce the incidence and severity of acute graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The rhythmic fluctuations in inflammation levels before infusion dictate subsequent T cell responses, which may be a key factor underlying outcomes based on the time of day that transplantation occurs.

75% of US scientists who answered Nature poll consider leaving More than 1,600 readers answered our poll; many said they were looking for jobs in Europe and Canada.

We polled Nature readers to ask if they were thinking of leaving the US for jobs abroad. Three-quarters of them (who said they were US-based scientists) said yes. 🧪
