I've read a lot of scripts this year from aspiring writers. The biggest overlap I saw was failing to tie plot to character goals. Scenes were often clever ideas, not born of the protagonist's wants/needs. Maybe a module like 'how character drives plot'?

9. Pi was my first indie film. Again, completely changed my idea of what movies were supposed to be and opened up what they could be. Also the first time I realized you could make something profound on a small budget.

Sending some love for Meghan Park's MY OLD ASS -- it's wildly different genre, and written by a woman. Not many movies I saw this year were so specific -- and that's what makes a movie universal.

I always thought of this as the scene where Turner and Harron showed us the only glimmer of Bateman's humanity. Jean is the only non-appearance obsessed person he knows. She's talking to him about real life. He hears Evelyn's voice and is reminded that without Jean, everyone else is an Evelyn.
