According to this paper, 8+ hours is adequate: "severe inadequate ...4.7 to 4.1 hours per night... moderate inadequate... (6.0 to 5.5 hours per night... , mild inadequate... 7.2 to 6.8 hours per night... and adequate... 8.4 to 8.0 hours per night."

Check out the website here: genspectrum.org/swiss-wastew.... And follow our work tracking virus loads in #RSV here: wise.ethz.ch. We're still in the middle of an #RSV wave now, but it looks like the peak may be behind us.
So now back to our work sequencing #RSV, available from #Genspectrum website: We can track genomic changes in virus regions targeted by #Nirsevimab and the vaccines, to detect, within the population, whether or not the virus mutates in ways that may confer resistance to our available treatments.
But the good news is, in #Switzerland, we have monoclonal antibody Nirsevimab for infants to reduce risks of severe disease, or as a prophylaxis to prevent infections in at-risk infants. We also have two vaccines against #RSV approved for the elderly: www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home/...
«Wir haben momentan keine Reserve mehr an freien Betten mit pflegerischer Betreuung.» Christoph Berger said at the time, as reported in @20min.ch www.20min.ch/story/wegen-...
Another number that's important is #hospitalizations. #CDC estimates 130-260k hospitalizations in the #US. These are infections severe enough to require a hospital bed, which means that bed is not available for other illnesses. In 2022-23, #Switzerland, a huge RSV wave impacted hospitals...
#RSV is a common #respiratory virus. We've probably all had it at some point in our life. For most of us, its a nuisance* But for some people, including #children and the elderly, its deadly. #CDC reports an estimated 7k-16k deaths due to RSV this season alone. www.cdc.gov/rsv/php/surv...
We are tracking mutations of #RSV in #wastewater: genspectrum.org/swiss-wastew.... Why this matters and why you should re-tweet for visibility (a 🧵).
The highest incidence rates of upper #Respiratory diseases is in children under 2 years old, again from The Lancet. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
As #Respiratory #Disease peaks in #Switzerland, a few notes. More than 12.8 billion upper respiratory infections are estimated globally every year, that's >1 per person per year! See www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...
#Wastewater in #Switzerland showing high levels of circulating #RSV, #InfluenzaA, and #InfluenzaB. A lot going around at the moment. See our dashboard at wise.ethz.ch, or the FOPH Infectious Disease Dashboard for integrated surveillance at idd.bag.admin.ch
Postdoctoral scholar Dr. Kendra Dahmer discusses how the new administration's policies could affect her global health research apnews.com/article/trum...
"New infections in children were associated with preceding household detection of the same pathogen in soil (Odds ratio: 8.8, 95% confidence interval: 3.3, 23) and on child hands (Odds ratio: 5.0, 95% confidence interval 1.1, 17)."
📯 #Swiss wastewater dashboard through our #wise project is now updated with historic data within which you can overlay the seasons. #Influenza B is now high, after skipping a year. Check it out here: wise.ethz.ch
#Wastewater-based monitoring for #PublicHealth holds a lot of promise, but an outstanding challenge is to understand what public health relevant metrics can be derived, and how we translate data into impact. See our Viewpoint on #AMR #AntimicrobialResistance in #EST 👇
If you're measuring #Legionella in a water system using qPCR, how do you relate your value to culture? We suggest a conservative 1:1 assumption! Unless you know more about your system, this seems accurate based on a systematic review. Led by Emile Sylvestre: journals.plos.org/water/articl...
The mutation impacts the digital PCR efficiency, resulting in an underestimate of the concentration (for N1). As a consequence, we now monitor the ratio as part of our weekly QA/QC. We observe some fluctuation from week to week, but the ratio has returned back to 1.
We observed a decoupling in the ratio consistent with a mutation in the forward primer region, which increased and then decreased throughout 2023: cov-spectrum.org/explore/Swit...
Yes, we have data from mid-2022; we're working on updating our database to include older data, it should be up in a week or two.
From the #Swiss #Wastewater, signs of #SARS-CoV-2 receding, while both #influenza A and B continue an upward rise. #RSV looks to be staying stable, could be evidence that it has peaked. From: wise.ethz.ch
Everything is everywhere all at once: #Influenza A, Influenza B, and #RSV are all increasing in #Zurich wastewater, while #SARS-CoV-2 still circulates. From wise.ethz.ch.

Clear signs in wastewater that RSV season is picking up as we enter end of year holidays. In past years, RSV has picked up before Influenza A and B. From: wise.ethz.ch.
