A list of productive things to do from piratecaptainscaptainpirates on tumblr.

I’ve been reading more, collecting new friends because my family shrunk, buying books I’m pretty sure will be illegal to publish soon, and volunteering to transcribe at-risk archives collections so there is a digital copy. Does anyone have anything to add to the list of stuff to do to feel better?

I want to remind everyone that your local library is both physical AND digital.

You hate streaming everything because the price is ridiculous? Library.

You hate ads because they're every 3 mins or less? Library.

You want to reduce your digital footprint? Library.

You want sourced info? Library.

A snowy yard ends in a dark brown strip of river with trees in the background. A large oak sits to one side in front of the river.

The snow was a pretty surprise this morning

The best thing you can do for an author is to request their book from your library. The library will usually get it for you! The author will get an immediate sale, and libraries will know there is a demand for their future books! Just google your library name plus "book request" or walk in and ask

I was deeply disappointed by the lack of nature/science/climate/enviro on many major end-of-year book lists—so I decided to make my own!

Reminder- using reference for art is NOT cheating. Depending on what type of artist you are, you should absolutely be using it. All highly skilled pro artists I know use it.

Art isn't a party trick, we don't have to be in the business of impressing ppl with the process. Don't hold yourself back.

I like this. I have all of these photos saved as inspiration for future artworks, but I never actually use them. Using your advice, I could pick one photo a day for a quick sketch while drinking my tea in the morning. Great exercise!

Consider the power of drawing daily for 30 minutes:

- 30 minutes of drawing a day = 15 hours a month
- 15 hours of drawing a month = 1 full illustration
- 1 full illustration monthly = 12 illustrations a year

Your portfolio is going to start filling up pretty quickly.
