This series is really intriguing. Great storytelling, amazing visuals, and top notch educational content around bees. Can’t speak more highly about this series so far. youtu.be/Mej2usrRCl0?...

fuck me for being this person, i guess, but public universities are a civic good and shouldn’t be run like businesses. and if you’re going to insist on running them like so, at least do some market research. students like their professors; they don’t want MOOCs taught by ChatGPT.

I ran the food pantry for my university over the fall semester and we had some international students come in and say goodbye to some of our volunteers because their funding got cut. They couldn’t go into too much detail, but it was likely due to national policy changes. 🙁

Have a 24+ hour road trip ahead of me. Any audiobook recommendations? Preferably something easily to follow and fictional. 🙂

@ecologysupplies.bsky.social it was cool seeing you all in person at EntSoc. Here is to hoping for some colorful additions to your pro net series in 2026 outside of purple 😊

This looks really cool, and I’m so sorry if you posted the link somewhere and I’m just not seeing it, but I’m not sure where to access this podcast. 😅

Super rare that I Merlin picks up not one but two birds to add to my life list. Horned Lark and Purple Finch feels like the name of secret agents, maybe even time travelers who are sworn enemies with just a wisp of intimacy between them.

If my research idea comes to fruition, books on seeds will be joining the books on bees on my shelf. 🤓 Not quite a seed book, but I hear amazing things about Botany of Empire.

The naturalist Jane Goodall died today at 91. Hope, she argued, is not merely “passive wishful thinking” but a “crucial survival trait.” Revisit a conversation with Goodall, from 2021: nyer.cm/F55JtsS

My harvest of dragon tongue beans to replant next year. I started off with just 7 seeds that I brought up with me from Florida to Vermont, and after growing them out and saving the seeds I now have a couple hundred to give away. 💜

Is this print available to purchase by chance? All of my research is based on the fact that the flourishing of human and pollinator populations is deeply intertwined in the tapestry that is the food system and that the health of food system and insect pollinators are mutually dependent. 🤓

Thanks Gwen! I’m passing on this information to my advisors well, but all signs are pointing to no NSF funding opportunity for me going forward. 😔

Just to confirm, me being in the second year of my masters degree makes me ineligible?

6 months ago 0 0 1 0

Maybe I’ve misunderstood the NSF-GRFP this whole time, but as a second year Masters student I’m not actually eligible to apply?

I want to say something, but UT is one of the places I’m hoping to apply to for my PhD so I’ll hold my tongue, or in this case, typing. 😓
