Voltaire and Rousseau had a big tidy up. What do you mean I don’t need to play book jenga and twister to navigate my way through the shop?

I just finished this indie Irish game and was blown away by the gameplay and Agatha Christie style storytelling. Also never thought I’d see colonialism and Magdalene Laundries addressed in a game. Wonderful!
I’m launching a new podcast today called The Carrying Stream, a space for long-form conversations about Scottish culture, literature, and ideas. 🎙️
The first three episodes are now live (link below).
If you’re curious, you’re very welcome to follow along.
On MONDAY, friends! It's VICTORIAN MURDER CLUB, at 9pm on BBC Two!
At this point I forget all the early starts and freezing locations. But I don't forget the magnificent people behind the scenes who make it all possible. If you appreciate them as much as I do, do let them know in the comments!
Out now - a special Irish Pages on Scotland. Why Irish? Why have we no such journal of our own? 10 years since the referendum, we take stock. Cultural memory and (thanks be) new poets. irishpages.org/product/vol-...
Part of a letter I wrote to my MP today about the forthcoming Data Bill, which will protect creatives by including amendments regarding vital transparency requirements for AI training.

If you don’t want to read Bram Stoker‘s Dracula together by the fireplace whilst sharing a plate of midnight pastries in a seaside cottage on the Scottish coast during an ominous thunderstorm, then please don’t tell me you’re “down for a good time.”
The DL team are the loveliest humans and they’re launching a bookshop residency now that they’ve moved to a bigger and better venue! Super prize ✨
All I want is a seaside cottage, the rumble of thunder in the distance, an Agatha Christie novel, an emotional support owl, a crackling fire, a whistling kettle on the stove, and a healthy supply of freshly-baked scones.
Yes!! 🙂
Looking forward to it 🙂
Fingers crossed!
A comedy hero of mine. Sorry to miss him this year, but wish him a very speedy recovery.
“Fairs are an accretion of centuries’ of collective memory, their identities bound up - historically, aesthetically, emotionally - with the land on which they stand." I loved writing this @heraldscotland.bsky.social piece on fairs & the fight to save them. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2509695...
I‘m just a Scottish girl, standing in front of Word spellchecker, asking it to stop insisting her words in Scots are wrong. 🏴
For your consideration:
“Nothing could be so delightful as the style of living in Scotland; the people were so frank & gay, & the manners so easy & engaging…”

Back in September, in an event with us and @legroff.bsky.social, Colm Toibin talked about how this was happening in Ireland. Looks like it has moved to the UK too. It's IMPERATIVE that this be condemned and resisted.

A true legend!
Stupid clickbait headline.
It would be peaceful, Chris, it would be damn peaceful. But boring 🙂
Blew my mind the first time I realised this was not the case.

It would really mean the world to me if people would share details of my event for THE UNLIKELY PURSUIT OF MARY BENNET, Tuesday 29th April in Glasgow! If you have queer friends, tell them! Or if you think you'd enjoy a book which kills Mr Collins off, come along!

Oh hey, it me! :D
