Voltaire and Rousseau had a big tidy up. What do you mean I don’t need to play book jenga and twister to navigate my way through the shop?

I just finished this indie Irish game and was blown away by the gameplay and Agatha Christie style storytelling. Also never thought I’d see colonialism and Magdalene Laundries addressed in a game. Wonderful!

On MONDAY, friends! It's VICTORIAN MURDER CLUB, at 9pm on BBC Two!

At this point I forget all the early starts and freezing locations. But I don't forget the magnificent people behind the scenes who make it all possible. If you appreciate them as much as I do, do let them know in the comments!

If you don’t want to read Bram Stoker‘s Dracula together by the fireplace whilst sharing a plate of midnight pastries in a seaside cottage on the Scottish coast during an ominous thunderstorm, then please don’t tell me you’re “down for a good time.”

The DL team are the loveliest humans and they’re launching a bookshop residency now that they’ve moved to a bigger and better venue! Super prize ✨

All I want is a seaside cottage, the rumble of thunder in the distance, an Agatha Christie novel, an emotional support owl, a crackling fire, a whistling kettle on the stove, and a healthy supply of freshly-baked scones.

The show must go on: The fight to save the last of the Scottish fairs Fairs are more than a mish mash of rides and stalls plonked on any old spot that keeps them out of the way, writes Dani Garavelli, they are an…

“Fairs are an accretion of centuries’ of collective memory, their identities bound up - historically, aesthetically, emotionally - with the land on which they stand." I loved writing this @heraldscotland.bsky.social piece on fairs & the fight to save them. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2509695...

Librarians in UK increasingly asked to remove books, as influence of US pressure groups spreads Anecdotal evidence suggests a rise in requests to take books off shelves, particularly LGBTQ+ titles

Back in September, in an event with us and @legroff.bsky.social, Colm Toibin talked about how this was happening in Ireland. Looks like it has moved to the UK too. It's IMPERATIVE that this be condemned and resisted.

It would really mean the world to me if people would share details of my event for THE UNLIKELY PURSUIT OF MARY BENNET, Tuesday 29th April in Glasgow! If you have queer friends, tell them! Or if you think you'd enjoy a book which kills Mr Collins off, come along!
