Trans Lives 2025: Continuing to endure the UK’s hostile environment – TransActual

"In a UK survey of over 4,000 trans people, TransActual found that 99% say media coverage has harmed their mental health, 99% have heard politicians express transphobic views, and many have been refused non-transition healthcare simply for being trans."

She seems fine. I’m glad Labour is fighting this from something closer to the Greens than Reform. She’s still a Labour candidate. People still have lost their trust in Labour. I can’t see why anyone should choose this candidate in Gorton over Hannah Spencer 💚

Starmer has little to offer voters of either right or left in Gorton and Denton. That’s why he’s facing a perfect storm | Owen Jones The Greens are buoyant as Labour struggles. After shredding any semblance of a progressive agenda, fear of Reform is all the PM’s party has left, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

Labour took votes for granted.

They've blown it.

Green Party want to lower bills, protect our NHS and rebuild our public services.

Vote Green - and stop Reform.

The Epstein Files ought to comprise the easiest political case against the billionaire class ever conceived. Any politician who supports policies favouring the ultra-wealthy should never be able to escape this association.

btw i have no idea why ministers are telling starmer to fire streeting but i agree with them.

he should never have been given a cabinet position to begin with. he shouldn't be a frontline politician at all.

This is absolutely hilarious. He has abandoned his principles but his voters haven't ... so they're abandoning HIM.

Hmm. Here's their phone number for "enquiries and feedback" for anyone who'd like to give them a call

I mean you COULD just tweet/etc at them but there's nothing like real phone calls from confused/disappointed/alienated customers to make clear people's feelings about the humiliation of segregation

In line with the interim guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), and to comply with the Equality Act, our single-sex facilities are provided on the basis of biological sex. We appreciate that this may be upsetting, particularly for those who wish to use facilities that reflect their gender identity.

So to ensure that everyone feels respected and supported during their visit, we provide gender-neutral, accessible toilets across the Gardens (separate from the male and female designated toilets). Their locations are listed below.

Victoria Plaza
Palm House Pond
Ruined Arch
Temperate House
Brentford Gate
Kew Palace
Orangery
Family Kitchen
Pavilion Bar & Grill

In addition, the toilets inside the Botanical Bar & Brasserie are all gender-neutral.

Thank you for sharing your concerns, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Gardens again soon.

I'm nonbinary, and I have never felt less respected and supported than when you use gender neutral toilets to segregate binary trans people.

How did this Supreme Court ruling happen? A brief history of how Great Britain became Terf Island How the UK anti-trans machine turned the UK from a place of hope for the Trans+ community, to hate

They said: “Most people, including some fairly senior ones, had no idea the interim guidance was coming until it was published late on the Friday evening.

“They woke up to texts from family members and friends saying: ‘What’s going on?’ Staff working on sex and gender issues hadn’t been told, and nor had the duty press staff who were meant to explain it to the media. It was completely shambolic.

“This is, understandably, a fairly inclusive workplace and quite a few staff have trans friends or even partners. They suddenly had to try and explain this guidance which made no sense.

“The pushback has been really strong. Some stakeholders are saying they can no longer work with us. Loads of staff say they’re looking for other jobs. The approach from the chair and senior leadership has been really secretive and paranoid.”

This reads like more evidence that the interim EHRC guidance was drawn up by Kishwer Falkner and cronies, without input from neutral expert staffers.

Cis-allies: Now’s the time to step up 📢

If you’re feeling helpless after the UK Supreme Court ruling and the EURC’s response, here’s 5 practical steps you can take to support the trans community right now:

1️⃣ Tell your MP you oppose the ruling and anti-trans guidance — use a template, personalise it, and hit send.

2️⃣ Stay informed, avoid media spin, and learn the facts from trusted, trans-led sources.

3️⃣ Support legal funds and healthcare access for trans people.

4️⃣ Make your support public — show up, speak up, and wear your allyship proudly.

5️⃣ Challenge transphobia when it’s safe to do so — silence helps no one.

There are plenty more things you can do to help - attend protests and marches, have those awkward conversations with your colleagues, friends, family - but these are a starting point.

I'm suing the EHRC. Anti-trans interim guidance challenged

I'm suing the EHRC.

“Akua Reindorf KC, was overheard in the Supreme Court building plotting with activists from other hate groups about the next steps to take once the judgment was delivered. This is one of the factual grounds for the challenge.”

The Government hasn't forced a longer consultation period on the EHRC to avoid a pre-determined outcome. It's forced a longer consultation period on the EHRC the better to shield Labour politically from the pre-determined outcome.

I find it's almost always clearest & best to use their terminology quotatively, in inverted commas & hedged with "so-called".

Therefore "so-called 'biological sex'" or "so-called 'birth sex'" etc

Then they can't (pretend to) misunderstand & also makes clear the dodginess of their terminology.

Trans inclusion after the Supreme Court decision: FAQs | Good Law Project Guidance for this time of uncertainty

Very pleased to say, we've at last managed to get up some practical guidance on what the For (Some) Women Scotland decision means.

Tl;dr it's absolutely *not* what the bigots in Government or the bigots leading the misnamed EHRC are telling you. goodlaw.social/1c68df

This is worth noting; the EHRC has form. It has previously produced “guidance” that, like their current“interim” hogwash, was ignored by everyone.

..."piss on the floor" & be sacked.

Basically the so-called "Equalities" minister is forcing employers to "out" transgender employees to their colleagues… -> humiliation, exclusion & stigma

AND making employment even HARDER for trans people to obtain - what employer wants this hassle?

That's true for public toilets - a nightmare for service providers to "enforce biological sex" as they don't know the users

But easier to enforce in workplace toilets like this case - employers usually know which of their employees are trans (originally to protect them but now to exclude/harm them)

Not the airplane toilets!

Airbus are banning their transgender EMPLOYEES from using the toilets at work. "Outing" & endangering them

They've rushed to do this even BEFORE the draft guidelines have been reviewed & confirmed… eager to start humiliating & harming their trans employees ASAP.

Another day, another needing to say "The young men who buy into Andrew Tate's bullshit are not victims but perpetrators of the rape culture he sells them".

I think there's an argument to be made that they are often victims of some kind of fraud/con artistry/grift. But not victims of the misogyny.
