Francois moved on to conduct a monitoring visit in Hanoi this week. He conducted file reviews, looking at all the consent and assent forms, and checking a selection of the data forms against the data in REDCap. It is a great opportunity for the team to review what can be done to improve quality.

🍽️ About 1 in 4 children in the ALSPAC cohort experienced food insecurity in early childhood.

Even when it resolved by age 5, elevated risk of binge eating and compensatory behaviours remained in adolescence.

Monitoring visits can feel a bit daunting for teams, but hopefully this week with Francois has been a great opportunity to learn about research processes and procedures and to tighten these up for the country teams. Francois certainly enjoyed his time in Phnom Penh. Hanoi next!

Are we really overdiagnosing mental illness? It’s tempting to dismiss the proliferation of labels as a fad, but there’s more to this phenomenon than a simple culture-war reading allows

I'm in the Guardian today, writing about the question of overdiagnosis of mental illness. I argue we need to stop seeing this as a binary yes/no question - is overdiagnosis happening or is the increase real? - and acknowledge that multiple things can be happening at once
