This is a great idea! I can’t go to #Evol2026 as I will be doing museum “fieldwork” but others should take note.

New report of experimental evidence from Grace Liu & collaborators showing that AI assistance improves immediate performance - but after just ∼10 minutes of AI-assisted problem-solving people who lose access to the AI perform worse and give up more frequently than those who never used it.
I like getting an old scientific illustration - related research they’ve been working on in the lab and put it in a cheap frame
New barracudina just dropped 🎉 We see a LOT of these long, toothy deep sea fishes in our swordfish stomachs - exciting to be able to ID them more accurately in the future!

Congratulations Maurine!
I’m finishing my tenure as Chief Meeting Organizer for the Evolution Meetings. Apply to replace me!
Without a doubt, this is my favorite service I’ve ever done. In trying times, it was a real balm to get together weekly with a group devoted to making the best meetings we can for students.

Two small plants with glossy veined leaves and tall flower stems (several centimetres) terminating in a delicate white bell-shaped flower with ruffled edges.
Went to Devil’s Fork State Park to see one of our local endemics today - oconee bells (Shortia galacifolia). They are found only in a few counties in southern Appalachia SC, NC and GA and flower only for a couple of weeks in March/april.
Are you an early career biologist seeking a position (Masters up to faculty)? I have talked to so many people who feel alone, like they don't have resources, or who are seeking community during this difficult time in the job market. I created a Discord community to help. discord.gg/nmktHJhUPH

Gummy candy ‘sour elderflower fish’ packet light blue covered in abstract green and white elderflower blossoms and yellow sugar covered fish with no foral find and hetercercak tail
Yellow gummy candy fish covered in sugar - deep bodied with homocercal tail.
I thought I may have been given gummy gymnotiform fishes or perhaps gummy early vertebrate Haikouichthys based on the package illustrations. Sadly what was inside didn’t live up to the expectations - still tasty though!
Congrats @hippieherper.bsky.social!
'Tis the season for some festive science songs.
If you've ever wanted to hear someone sing about a dimunitive tyranosaur then now is your chance

🧪🐠 I am hiring a postdoc! Work will be on patterns of biodiversity across phylogenetic scales using teleost fishes as a model. Apply by end of Jan 2026 for full consideration apply.interfolio.com/179070 I encourage folks to reach out with any questions. Please Share!
Thank you to ICB journals for highlighting @keifferwilliams.bsky.social’s 1st PhD paper - it’s especially apt as he is coming back to Clemson for his hooding ceremony on Wednesday!
My newest paper and 1st chapter from the PhD is also officially out!
I test how random encounter models work on reef fish 🐠Also great for anyone with a healthy dose of scepticism about reef fish survey methods
*Contains one of the most painful tables I've ever written.

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.
One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.
When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
Check out our review/perspective piece on phylogenetic diversification analysis, intended for the 75th anniversary of
