Delighted to share our recent article published in @pnas.org!
Provided insights into the shape of the lncRNA RMRP & identified two motors — DDX5 and DDX3X — that help it reach the mitochondria. Without them, RMRP is trapped in the nucleus, disrupting mitochondrial genes.

Indels allow antiviral proteins to evolve functional novelty inaccessible by missense mutations Tenthorey et al. compare the effects of missense and indel mutations on the acquisition of functional novelty by the rapidly evolving antiviral protein TRIM5α. They find that single indel mutations al...

Proud of this work, led by the amazing Jeannette Tenthorey (now Assistant Professor at UCSF), demonstrating the adaptive power of single indel mutations in host-virus arms races, but a little sad that this is the coda to her amazing postdoc in the Malik & Emerman labs.

Extracellular vesicles contain ion channels that make cell-to-cell cargo transport possible Scientists have revealed the secret to the structural integrity of tiny particles that transport cargo from cell to cell through blood vessels and bodily fluids: special proteins that keep their membranes intact as they negotiate shifting electrical impulses in different biological environments.

Extracellular vesicles utilize ion channels to maintain membrane integrity and effectively transport cargo between cells, potentially enhancing their use in therapeutic applications. doi.org/g8z3mc
