Feels like this paper on protein-templated DNA synthesis by a natural enzyme warrants some comment.
So here's a 🧵. /1

Look at this view! And even better: every attendee gives a talk making this meeting extremely collaborative. This is THE meeting to be for #NewPI #Drosophila researchers - and those who want to connect to them!
Congrats 🥳
If you’re a people pleaser, a key to effective time management is remembering that you’re usually going to be disappointing someone.
When we take on a task we don’t need or want to do just to make someone happy, it usually comes at the cost of letting down ourselves or those closest to us.
Can we predict health,
Or when flies drop like fall leaves?
Yes, chemotypes can!

Congrats 👏
Our paper is now available as early access at Nature Communications! Using the #Drosophila follicle epithelium as a model, we applied #scRNAseq, #LiveImaging, and cell biological tools to unravel functions of aberrant EGFR-Ras and Hedgehog signaling.

An analysis of published papers on eight widely studied “model” organisms suggests work on them is fading, but not everyone is worried. https://scim.ag/3PaOvIs
Happy to announce I've launched a new service for the fly community: flyRoom, a web-based comprehensive stock manager for all your fly pushing needs. Organise all your stocks, maps all your genotypes, plan your crosses, print and scan your labels. Give it a try and let your colleagues know!

Calling all #Drosophila #NewPI #researchers!
A few spots remain for the upcoming JEDI Conference - and you won’t want to miss this!
Every attendee gives a talk, making the exchange dynamic, personal, and highly interactive - all at a stunning venue that inspires collaboration and creativity.
"we propose that the protoribosome was a parasite (...). If this view is correct, then like the spliceosome in the stem eukaryote, a repurposed host-parasite interaction led to a dramatic change in cell biology at the base of the tree of life, in this case leading to the exit from an RNA world"

Had a great time with my #drosophila #JEDI fellows Adam Dobson and @nathanwoodling.bsky.social. Thanks so much Adam for the invitation: exciting science, insightful EDI discussions and great colleagues at the School of Molecular Biosciences in Glasgow! A rainy but so friendly scottish spirit 😊
How could a simple self-replicating system emerge at the origins of life? RNA polymerase ribozymes can replicate RNA, but existing ones are so large that their self-replication seems impossible. Could they be smaller?
Excited to share our latest work in @science.org on a new small polymerase.

Thank you Zayna 🤗. Mouse, fly and RNA, altogether 😁
Looking forward to this exiting collaboration with @clembrnrd.bsky.social on RNA biology! can't wait to meet in London, Exeter and in our @igmm-montpel.bsky.social
Manu thanks to the British Council for their support.
Enjoy 🤩
Registration will open soon for the next JEDI meeting: June 1st - 3rd in Palmela, Portugal! Join us and our keynote speaker Eugenia Chiappe. Her #neuroscience lab studies how #Drosophila estimates its own movement and integrates sensory inputs to control locomotion.

I am very happy (and a bit scared) to present to you what we have been working on over the last 4 years. This manuscript is exactly what I dreamt of when I started the lab and I could not be happier and prouder of the outcome!
Dear #Drosophila researchers, the year starts with good news! The date and venue for our next meeting is confirmed: June 1st to 3rd at the beautiful Historic Hotel Castle De Palmela in Portugal! Mark the dates, registration will open soon!
