One strategy (there are others!) for tackling illegitimacy or the lack of a birth certificate in England/Wales - #GenHour #Genealogy : www.familyhistorygifts.co.uk/cant-find-a-...
That’s a great jumping off point for when you think you have found an answer! Can you disprove your own theory? #genealogy #exhaustiveresearch
Begin at the beginning (BMD records), then to census records; assimilate, verify, validate, compare, follow every lead, research every detail, hint, clue and squiggle. Where does that take you? Land, wills, military, courts, immigration, newspapers, neighbours? #genealogy #exhaustiveresearch
My second top tip is to record all the negative evidence in order to eliminate other possibilities. If that Jane Smith married Fred and your Jane Smith married George (and census records are concurrent), she is not your Jane Smith. #genealogy #exhaustiveresearch
My own top tip for #genealogy #exhaustiveresearch is to fully research any siblings and spouses you can confidently (or not) confirm. The more records, the more clues. The more clues, the greater chance of confirmation NOT confirmation bias.
I am putting together notes for a #genealogy writing group meeting for next week and am focusing on ‘reasonably exhaustive research’. What is YOUR top tip to meet this GPS standard?
I also found this. It took a bit of research with leaving a surname blank and entering as much as I could in all other fields to find one family. (Transcribed as Morton for Norton)
Heather Cox Richardson is on here somewhere and I know you already follow her. Find her and then look at her follow list
