I have really enjoyed ‘The Northern Weird Project’ from @wildhuntbooks.bsky.social
Five of the six novellas have been released; odd, dark and contemporary tales inspired by the life, scenery and folklore of Northern England. I look forward to book six and future projects.

I’ve just begun ‘The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre’ by Philip Fracassi. Absolutely loving it so far.

A view of the beech trees in the garden at sunset, the leaves that have begun to turn yellow for autumn are glowing in the early evening sun.

A beautiful scene in the garden at sunset, as the last rays hit the beech trees. #nature #beech #sunset #yorkshire

I’m reading ‘Murder at the Black Cat Cafe’ by Seishi Yokomizo. - I love Honkaku/Japanese ‘Golden Age’ crime fiction. Only slightly miffed that Pushkin Press have changed the cover styles.

Trying to imagine Shirley Jackson writing a story about tradfluencers and I'm giggling too much to hold the hinge I'm supposed to be regluing

Book cover of the UK paperback edition of ‘Nightbitch’ by Rachel Yoder, published by Vintage. Cover depicts the lower portion of a woman’s face, her nose, red painted lips and upper teeth. The title is across the top of the cover and author’s name at the bottom, both is a solid capitalised black font. The quotes are: “I tore through it” by Lisa McInerney and “Feral, unholy… incredible” by Carmen Maria Machdo.
The book is resting on my legs, in bed, there is a green waffle blanket, by my feet are my Frenchies Pablo and Dotty, sleeping.

On a wet and thundery Thursday I am recovering from gallbladder surgery, reading in bed with the dogs, there snoring is proving to be calming and soporific. I’ve had ‘Nightbitch’ on my TBR for a while now, I’m hoping a bit of female rage will take my mind off my aches and pains #booksky 💙📚#books

The best message to get. When your child becomes a reader too and asks for recommendations. #booksky #horrorbooks #horrorreading #reading #book 💙📚

I hadn’t realised that, and will certainly listen to them. Perhaps to reach a wider audience? I wouldn’t have known about the stories without the book.

I enjoyed them, I took the book away with me to a mid size old hotel (in France) on a short autumnal break. In a hotel bar, before a log fire definitely added to the atmosphere. I feel though that reading it as a “book” one after another is not the best, each in isolation may be a better way.

I loved ‘This House Isn’t Haunted But We Are’, that I bought direct from @wildhuntbooks.bsky.social
Where can I buy your other titles?

Allan and Janet Ahlberg books were such favourites of my children, we as parents got so much pleasure out of reading them at bedtime. I think we can all recite most from memory ♥️

I overheard the most wonderful conversation in @waterstones.bsky.social today; two young girls longing for their own home, so that they could fill it with bookshelves, their fantasy developed in to having their own library to fill ♥️

I have bought so many books from new to me authors solely from Bluesky, and seen new releases of favourite authors, I’ve then purchased. I mainly read horror, which seems to have a really strong community here.

I’m reading Eurotrash by Christian Kracht (pub. Serpent’s Tail, translated by Daniel Bowles).

This one about the club Fabric my husband and I were fans of in ‘99 and the early 2000s and that my daughter is now a huge fan of. Wonderful photographs of the club scene

Discovered the fabulous bookshop in #SaltsMill #Saltaire #WestYorkshire such a great selection of fiction and non fiction, I could have happily stayed all day, all drawn away by the promise of delicious food in the Salts Diner - the Hockney’s weren’t too bad either ;-)

A Eurasian Blackbird perches on the twisted stem of a Wisteria, against the backdrop of a limestone wall. To the left are the trailing purple flowers of the wisteria and a brass outdoor light, below is a wicker garden chair with grey cushions, and a bay tree.

The garden is teeming with birds today, I caught this blackbird having a rest after eating his fill from the feeder (the ever vigilant robin must have been occupied elsewhere) #birdsky #yorkshire

Book cover: ‘Strange Pictures’ by Uketsu. This is the UK translated edition. The outer sides of the cover are a bold and bright red, there is a thick black outline of a bento box, beneath the outline, the inner compartments are a lime green. The top rectangle contains the books title in black text, the two compartments below, one contains a piece of sushi, nigiri style, a rectangle of rice with a partial octopus/squid tentacle, held together by a band of nori, the next compartment is the familiar little plastic fish bottle with a red cap containing soy sauce. Red liquid (blood) pools and drips down from this compartment. The next box below, and below that to the right is Japanese writing in Kanji (I have assumed the title and author, but do not know). The final box to the bottom left contains the author’s name Uketsu and adds “the chilling Japanese mystery sensation” and there is a small motif of the publisher Pushkin Vertigo

A fabulous mystery told in four parts, each involving strange pictures that hide a truth. A very different whodunnit from what I’m used to, but incredibly enjoyable to examine and guess along.i look forward to Uketsu’s next book ‘Strange Houses’. 💙📚 #booksky @pushkinpress.com
