AI has all but shut down the routes to proving yourself via grunt work in so many industries. All the best juniors I trained came in via that way. They didn’t have the social connections or money to position themselves for the success they proved more than capable of, AI is gutting social mobility

If Liz Kendall wants me to embrace AI, she can fix what’s wrong with it and stop talking about it as if a trillion dollar surveillance/kill-list engine sucking down as much energy as a new industrialised country and appropriating billions of pounds‘ worth of labour is a lost kitten.

An absolutely baffling time to be an historian of apocalyptic thought. Like my man is just straight up doing Antichrist stuff and I am meant to be normal???

Whatever skills I have as a translator came from the million+ words I translated down the translation mines. If all the unglamorous grunt work disappears there won't be anywhere to learn

Is it also related to the ability to do impressions, put on different accents when acting or telling stories, I wonder? It certainly doesn't seem to correlate that closely to skill in a language
