I’m new,” he said. “Really new, he’s staying with us for a bit while he finds a place to live. He said he could run a bar.” Roach rested a hand against the table and studied the set-out ingredients. “I can. I’m an excellent bartender.” The Swede poured the drink from the shaker into a cup and garnished it before handing it to Frenchie, who grinned at them and eased into another clump of talking people. “Pretty dab hand with a drink myself,” said Stede, offering the man a hand to shake. “Nice to meet you, Swede. I’m Stede. Ooh, that rings!” Stede was clearly just being friendly, and yet, Ed felt the urge to toss an arm around him and make it clear that Stede was…his friend. He held out his hand to the Swede instead and also gave his name.
