🧡 The Canadian federal government’s 2025 budget has allocated:

More business tax breaks including for fossil fuels sector
$925 million for AI
$81.8 billion over 5 years for military

However, this comes at the expense of cultural heritage.

Mostly I use qtd by when it's a translation or historical source that isn't particularly easy to get! But I've definitely been guilty of not following every quote of a quote; maybe it's something I need to do more

I read everything I cite, but I'm increasingly worried abt citing something paraphrased/quoted by someone else that turns out to be AI, and the only I can think to do is to more aggressively do "qtd. in" or "paraphrased by" when I don't know the author. idk, what do other people do? #AcademicChatter

I especially appreciated a model explaining how allies and opponents on a specific topic interact and how we might increase activity (esp. re: #NCPWG). Today we're turning those tools towards our own projects and activities, and utilizing design and collaboration across domains or tactics

spent all day yesterday at the #FightingFascistFeelings antifascist workshop led by @sarahsteinlubrano.bsky.social & @maxhaiven.bsky.social and it was fantastic; lots of thoughtful engagement with frameworks and theory, lots of big picture stuff and establishing frameworks.

Sailors timed how quickly knots slipped through their fingers on a rope tied to a log and jotted that speed into their "log book."

Soon people "logged" all sorts of important events into their little books.

Including early computer users, who would "log in" to their terminals to mark their use.

I’m really grateful to Greg. Page 85 is where I reveal the origin story of this book. It’s a Bluesky book.

Pictured: colored photo of twelve people posed on a stage. Eleven people wear wigs and dresses, ranging from sleek evening wear with gloves to a pink feathered gown and headpiece. One person wears a striped suit jacket and bowtie. Half of the performers are standing, the other half sitting before them, and almost all smile towards the camera.

Revealed: How Substack makes money from hosting Nazi newsletters Exclusive: Site takes a cut of subscriptions to content that promotes far-right ideology, white supremacy and antisemitism

A lot of brilliant, warm, and politically admirable people use Substack, a platform that platforms Nazis. I am conflicted about reading and sharing posts from there. I know that we all compromise our values at times, so I'm not calling anyone out.

What do y'all do with Substacks you appreciate?
