๐จ New paper alert ๐งฌ
Our work from the @michellepeckham.bsky.social lab is now out in #ScienceAdvances.
We present the #cryoEM structure of shutdown human non-muscle myosin 2A, showing how ionic interactions stabilise auto-inhibition and how mutations disrupt this state.

Very grateful to collaborators both studies included Woolfson lab, Berger-Schaffizels lab and @jessicacross.bsky.social labs at Bristol Biochem/Chem alongside JJ Phillips lab at Exeter
We think that this is probably the tip-of the iceberg in understanding how kinase signalling can direct control intracellular transport by kinesin-1
Second, a new preprint examining how binding of cargo adaptors is integrated with direct association of the motor complex with membranes is available on bioRxiv. We identify the kinase NEK10 as a Kinesin-1/KLC2-selective negative regulator of lysosome transport www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
We thought the new open and transparent process @elife.bsky.social was excellent and appreciated valuable feedback from the reviewers.
Two manuscripts from the lab to catch up upon exploring aspects kinesin-1 regulation. First, our examining the role of cargo-adaptor binding in controlling kinesin-1 conformational dynamics and association with MAP7 is now a VOR @elife.bsky.social elifesciences.org/articles/109...
And a postdoc position available working between our lab and the Woolfson lab designing proteins and peptides to augment intracellular transport pathways t.co/0WWgylZMbS
New preprint on kinesin inhibition and activation - collaborative effort across Bristol Biochem and Chemistry with Woolfson and Schaffizel labs and JJ Phillips in Exeter 1/2 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
We have a new 4-year postdoctoral position available working between our lab at the Woolfson lab at Schools of Biochemistry and Chemistry at Bristol. Applying protein design approaches to control intracellular transport. More info on link and flyer. Get in touch! www.bristol.ac.uk/jobs/find/de...
The position is either funded by a UoB scholarship or SWBio DTP - to be considered for both pools of funding apply separately for each of these. Secondary sup. is the brilliant @markdodding.bsky.social. ๐ง E-mail Ferdos.abidali@bristol.ac.uk for informal enquiries & ๐apply here tinyurl.com/yvzeb2kw.
Please share this PhD opportunity in my new lab in Bristol, using protein design/ engineering to understand and build molecular motors to control intracellular transport. Working with @markdodding.bsky.social and Prof Dek Woolfson.
