Really looking forward to this work finally becoming public. Much of this new strategy - on research and implementation in the “real world” - brought me to @sei.org . You will hear me banging on about this *a lot* in 2025! Looking forward to collaborating with the community on those efforts.
At #COP29, the least developed countries @ldcchairunfccc.bsky.social and small island developing states --temporarily-- walked out of the negotiations, stating their demands were not heard, asking for allocation floors & grant equivalent finance for adaptation and loss and damage
++NEW CLIMATE FINANCE TEXT++
It finally includes the core number that developed countries have so far resisted: $250bn a year for developing countries.
It also has a target of $1.3tn a year... but only as part of a wider goal including "all public and private sources"
With a new round of texts on the table at #COP29, how is it looking for the energy package?
Short answer - not great, but still much to fight for 🧵

A few days ago, we published an article in Science. Time for a short post about it.
We tried to contribute to an important debate: How well are we actually reducing our carbon emissions?
science.org/doi/10.1126/...
@felixpretis.bsky.social @patrickkloesel.bsky.social
We use data on over 1500 implemented climate policies over the past 25 years and identify 63 instances of very successful, structural reductions in carbon emissions.
Each one of those instances is something to celebrate and they show: society is capable of rapid change.
