Day 21 of a month of bread baking was….weird. I used a box mix to make a Tomato-Basil quick bread, and I didn’t really care for the taste. It had a soft quick bread texture but just tasted of like…weird savory spices. Oh well. #breadsky #homebaker

A small salad with olives and croutons and French dressing
Day 20 of a month of bread baking was set aside for making croutons out of some herb cheese bread I made a couple of days ago. As a salad topping, it was….fine. #breadsky #homebaker
Day 19 of a month of bread baking....well, it's actually a secret. I was filming for my next episode of "Bread After Dark" (my YouTube show with 1 subscriber as of time of posting). So instead of that, how about a fun video from a failed filming attempt earlier in the month.
For those curious, this is partially a function of all of those Mega Manectric decks, because this deck absolutely crushes those.
I’m at Master Ball rank in Pokémon TCG Pocket this season.
The deck features Miltank and Indeedee-EX
Getting back to Master Ball rank in TCG Pocket? Fun! Getting back to Master Ball rank by playing a deck nobody else is playing? Much, much more fun!
A tray of Strawberry Cheesecake Rolls, freshly baked but missing glaze.
The remaining strawberry cheesecake rolls (and resultant messy pan). This recipe needs some work still!
Day 18 of a month of bread baking was time for an experiment: strawberry cheesecake rolls. Imagine a cinnamon roll...except the middle is sweetened cream cheese and strawberry powder. It tasted great, but it was definitely overfull and messy. Will be a good recipe someday! #breadsky #homebaker
Cheddar bay biscuits in one of those red diner-style serving baskets
A single cheddar bay biscuit
Day 17 of a month of bread baking wasn’t a good day for me. I didn’t feel like baking. Instead of something complex, I dipped into the pantry for an emergency box of cheddar bay biscuit mix. (What, you don’t have a box of emergency cheddar bay biscuit mix?) #breadsky #homebaker
A loaf of Apple Cinnamon quick bread
The same loaf of quick bread from a different angle.
Day 16 of a month of bread baking was a long day from a work standpoint, so I used a box mix and made Apple Cinnamon quick bread. Still good. #breadsky #homebaker
A hopeful looking round of wheat bread dough with a cheese stick in the middle of it.
A sad looking cheese breadstick where the cheese hasn't melted and the proportions are all off such that it's mostly bread.
Day 15 of a month of bread baking, on the other hand, wasn't terribly successful. I attempted cheese stuffed breadsticks using a frozen wheat bread dough and left the dough WAY too thick, so the end ratios were....off. Oh well. Better luck tomorrow! #breadsky #homebaker
A tray of breadsticks brushed with garlic butter.
Breadsticks in aluminum trays.
Day 14 of a month of bread baking was about saying thank you. A while back, the teenage son of a coworker helped me move a bunch of stuff at work. The best way to thank a teenager is making them food, so I baked breadsticks. #breadsky #homebaker
A close-up shot of two garlic-herb focaccias
An overhead shot of two garlic-herb focaccias
Day 13 of a month of bread baking was another round of focaccia, this time garlic-herb. I took it to work to share with my coworkers, and it went over well! #breadsky #homebaker
A bag of homemade baking mix.
A bowl of baking mix, having been recently made using the pictured whisk and pastry cutter
Day 12 of a month of bread baking was a reset day. No new bread, just a baking mix. It will give me an easy way later to make scones or biscuits or pancakes, and it gives me time now to use some leftovers. #breadsky #homebaker
A pan of fresh salt and pepper focaccia bread.
A single slice of salt and pepper focaccia bread
Day 11 of a month of bread baking was my first time making focaccia. It was good! Because it was my first time, I went very similar and made a salt and pepper focaccia similar to what you get at Panera, but I will probably be experimenting more with it in the future. #breadsky #homebaker
A loaf of quick bread in the style of a carrot cake.
A slice of carrot cake bread inside of a paper towel
Day 10 of a month of bread baking was a carrot cake bread. (So I guess just a carrot bread then since it’s not cake) Definitely was good to have for this morning’s breakfast.
Three grilled cheese sandwiches made with homemade white bread
A delicious loaf of white bread made from frozen dough
Day 9 of a month of baking was white bread made from my previously frozen dough. I then turned it into grilled cheese sandwiches. Simple? Yes, but also delicious. Plain things can still be wonderful, and I think it’s wise to remember that fact. #breadsky #homebaker
Though I will concede that plenty of cheesecakes are badly/lazily made (I will still eat those, too.)
I think it depends on the topping, particularly if it's something that balances out all of the sweetness. I have eaten and made a Maple Cheesecake with Cranberry Compote on top several times, and I will politely argue that it's at least an A-tier dessert.
A tray of baked crispy pita chips seasoned with olive oil, salt, garlic parsley salt, and paprika.
A cooling rack filled with 7 Whole Wheat Pitas in varying states of doneness.
Day 8 of a month of bread was a day where I wasn't sure what to make, so I started by making Whole Wheat Pitas, because they're versatile and fairly quick. I ended up making Pita Chips seasoned with Salt and Garlic Parsley Salt and Paprika, and they were good! #breadsky #homebaker
A loaf of ginger ale bread, waiting to be sliced
A bubbly batter filled with flour and ginger ale.
Day 7 of a month of baking was a day where I used a mix. Specifically, the mix was a “Beer Bread”, which I made into a “Not Beer Bread” by using Ginger Ale instead. It was interesting! Lightly sweetened and a flavor that tasted of butter and caramel. #breadsky #homebaker
Three completed loaves of Hot Cross Bun bread (AKA Cinnamon Raisin Bread), with two of the loaves coated in icing.
Three loaves of Hot Cross Bun bread (aka Cinnamon Raisin Bread) coming out of the oven.
Day 6 of a month of bread baking was Hot Cross Buns again...sort of. I used the same dough, then made them into loaves instead of rolls, and took them into work to be enjoyed by all. #breadsky #homebaker
A hot cross bun topped with icing and served with a colorful orange hard-boiled egg
Easter brunch. Specifically, a tray of 15 hot cross buns with a carton of 12 colored hard-boiled eggs and a container of orange juice
Day 5 of a month of bread baking was Easter, so I made hot cross buns with raisins as the dried fruit and plain icing on top. #breadsky #homebaker
A badly photoshopped composite image showing four bread doughs, including Basic White, Buttermilk Wheat, Pretzel, and Cinnamon Pizza.
Four different frozen bread doughs in their current form inside of a freezer.
Day 4 of a month of bread was all about freezing dough, so that I can fit daily breadmaking in amidst all of my work/home/family responsibilities this month. We have, clockwise from top left, Basic White, Buttermilk Wheat, Pretzel, and Cinnamon Pizza Doughs. #breadsky #homebaker
A slice of a finished homemade muffuletta sandwich.
A loaf of muffuletta bread filled with lunchmeat and cheese and olive oil.
Day 3 of a month of bread was the end of a 3-day bake. I made a Muffuletta, which is a fancy sandwich from New Orleans using a special type of bread, an olive spread, and a lot of fancy lunch meat. Mine probably isn’t traditional, but it was good! A lot of effort, though. #breadsky #homebaker
Mind you, I am hopeful that this doesn't go that way....just guarded/jaded over past nonsense.
Native Ohioan here. Let's hold off on giving the state any credit until we see the way people vote. They had a straightforward proposal for an independent redistricting commission on the ballot in 2024, and it got buried in some much misinformation that the initiative went down.
A plate of cornbread squares, with a ramekin full of honey-cinnamon whipped butter in the middle.
A single piece of cornbread topped with a dollop of whipped honey-cinnamon butter.
Day 2 of a month of bread was cornbread from scratch- which is boring. So I also made whipped honey-cinnamon butter (like the kind they have in certain steakhouses), which is...much more interesting. And also tasted delicious! #breadsky #homebaker
A Detroit Deep Dish pizza hot out of the oven!
A single slice of homemade Deep Dish Pepperoni Pizza .
Day 1 of a month of bread, and I made Detroit Deep Dish Pizza. It was good! Soft crust, cubes of Wisconsin Brick Cheese that form crispy edges, hand sliced pepperoni, and a sweet-ish sauce on top. Always a great meal. #breadsky #homebaker
okay look on the plus side today is the last Thursday without new Taskmaster for 10 weeks
It’s that time, isn’t it? (Especially with the early bus this year)
Double Apple Muffins with a light sugar glaze on top.
A half eaten Double Apple muffin showing chunks of apple in the middle.
Hey, #breadsky! Every year I do a personal challenge I call Breadapalooza where I bake something bread related every day for a month. I’m a #homebaker and busy, so some days it’s complicated, and other times I use a box mix. I started the month with Double Apple Muffins. Enjoy!
