Late 60s Epiphones are basically the same as gibsons. Same material same factory. I have an FT45 (aka Cortez) which is the same as a Gibson LG2/B25. They’re usually available for <$1k.

They’ve been banned by USPS, FedEx and UPS, so functionally they cannot be distributed or shipped any longer. I squirreled some away 5+ years ago but haven’t seen them on a retail shelf since then.

Finished this fireplace feature wall just before Thanksgiving. Ipè sanded to 500 with just a little renaissance wax to finish.

I just saw a similar knife on FB cihi tool group. You? It looks great! Very elegant and obviously well polished.

Before/after: They can’t all be sexy original creations. This was a full tear down and refinish job. Hopefully the client will get another 50 years out of this mahogany built-in book case. #woodworking #refinishing #library

My friend recently asked me to create a sign for his cabin. I think this take is a nice revision on the #northwoods tradition.

Ambrosia maple. The house is enameled with a spar urethane finish. Jatoba frame and some solar lights will keep the see-thru windows illuminated at night.

Custom set of hand plane hangers with a matching block plane pouch. 10 oz harness leather, 1mm ritza tiger thread in black on 6mm spacing. A few brass rivets will match with the brass mounting screws and finish washers. #woodworking #leather #leatherwork #leathercraft #handtools #woodshop #handmade

1910s Stanley Hand plane handle or tote, heavily used, broken on top, and oxidized. It’s sitting on top of a woodworking bench and is the Before picture in the series of this post.

Stanley tool co number 8 handle or tote or their largest plane. Sanded to 320 and waxed. The After picture in the series is similarly situated on a workbench surface.

Bought a 1910s Stanley No. 8 to restore and the tote was this weird yellow color and the finish was worn off. I figured it was a replacement. But after sanding, I was shocked to find this rosewood underneath. It sanded like oxidation, not a stain or finish. Anyone ever seen something like this?

The rest of my same-period planes have rosewood knobs and totes like the darker piece here. The tote being reddish but still smelling like rosewood made it unlike what I’ve seen before.

Sure! Definitely could be. Same effect on the knob which cleaned up to also be a really nice rosewood, although visibly different than the tote.

It came from an estate of someone with just a few more tools than an average homeowner would have. I assume it’s just age for this vintage of a tool.

The electrolysis machine is up and running. Knocking the rust off some older Sampson dividers/calipers. Tool restoration is my other other hobby.

The 10/4 finished out at 2.25”. It’s much richer and browner than steamed/kilned commercial walnut. Now…what to make??

250 bdft of 50 year old Pennsylvania walnut coming this morning. I’m gonna need another shed.

Black leather safari or Roorkhee chair with turned padauk legs and stretchers. Natural leather strapping with brass buckles ensure a secure but adjustable means of assembly. Against a black back ground the artful lighting highlights the curves and classic form of the chair.

I love this chair & photo. It’s comfortable and adjustable. The lighting here is perfect. It highlights the black Latigo leather and brings the reds out of the padauk legs, while hinting at something stately and adventurous. Available.

Mystery rosewood (I suspect cocobolo) cooking spoon. Another scrap project from last week. Projects for this week will include stropping the bejezus out of my carving / whittling knives.
