It's no coincidence this video was made during the 70s energy crisis. For those tightening up belts...beans and rice is a complete protein, cheaper than meat, better for your heart and the planet too. #economizing-maxxing

Pringamosa, Malamujer, Bull nettle, whatever you call it, it’s left us all with some itchy, "warm" memories from the field. 🌿

Ill be working on "States of Transition: A poetic field guide to the United States" based on our ecotone work and my academic nomad journey across the US as a mixed race Chicana from South Texas. Ecotones and borderlands are special places. Nos vemos en California. dornsife.usc.edu/wrigley/2026...
New lab pub from Proyecto ALTA in ACG, Costa Rica: Forest type and leaf habit mediate thermal and drought tolerance across a tropical elevational gradient #NSF doi.org/10.1111/1365...
Our @cu-esiil.bsky.social working group VERDE is unpacking tropical phenology this week in Boulder. What incredible people and science.
'The footprints astronauts left on the Moon will last millions of years. But almost everything humanity has learned from the human genome to the Library of Congress could vanish overnight in a nuclear exchange or an asteroid strike.' A civilization backup on the moon.

🌎🌐🍁It’s been a pleasure to work with @pablolopezbust.bsky.social @nybg.bsky.social! The data on dry tropical forest seed traits that he assembled @hulshof.bsky.social lab @ VCU with the help of our undergrads @sunyesf.bsky.social is invaluable. What a great experience for the students too!
This is part of VERDE our incredible working group on tropical phenology. Should be a great talk highlighting how many ways there are to be deciduous. Even evergreen rainforests are much more deciduous than models (and many) field ecologists assume.
"The age of abundance in US environmental research is ending. What must replace it is an age of stewardship, memory and imagination; one in which we take care of the knowledge we have, the people who produce it and the institutions that sustain it."
It's great to see students thrive. Pablo's work on tropical seed traits and dispersal has taken him across Neotropics, Caribbean, and New York too with @dovciak-lab.bsky.social. Stay tuned for more work from Pablo. #NSFfunded

I finally did the math. Assuming $20/bag you spend $12/bag for 20 bags (40% discount) or $14/bag for 7 bags (29% discount). OR buy your darn coffee at the grocery store not the airport!
For hurricane prep in #PuertoRico we now pack dried fruit and canned fruit and veggies b/c you miss a lot of nutrients eating canned beans and noodles 3x/day for days on end (and get low/no sodium).
An incredibly fun Fulbright collaboration with Sara Palacio and Pablo Tejero Ibarra @ipe-csic.bsky.social and Nishi!
Nearly 50% of Earth's land cover and upwards of 70% of Biodiversity Hotspots are extreme environments. Yet many ecological theories fail in these habitats. Here, we explain why and showcase what extreme environments can tell us in a world of new extremes. #Fulbright

I couldn't decide if this was a requiem for an American dream or an American illusion. Written by an author who overly recognized their privilege, not leaving much hope for the rest of us. Still worth a read.
New paper in TREE: we propose a framework to think more clearly about the scale of climate exposure of organisms—and why mismatches between climate data and biology can mislead ecological inference.

I've been working towards my degree equivalencia in Spain. If you've recently made the leap from U.S. faculty to E.U. or España in ecology fields please DM. I would love to pick your brain about ERC, ATRAE, etc.
Please add our lab. We are launching multi taxa biodiversity monitoring in Area de Conservación Guanacaste, Costa Rica this year. Gracias!
I’m an accidental Professor of Latin American Studies, but am nevertheless comfortable asserting that - given the US track record when it comes to regime change in Latin America - this is going to be a fucking disaster.
Just love the graphics and collage effects of this video.
