ok so there's really no excuse for how bad they did it in the duchinese adaption

all that said, maybe im being too hard on them. im gonna look into an actual translation and then report back vis a vis whether or not im just being too critical

i think what offends me most about this is that the original first line includes so many positional things that would be great to learn. "awoke in his bed", "from [unsettling/uneasy/strange] dreams" "and found he'd become" "a [monstrous, disgusting, etc] [creature, vermin, thing,etc]" that would be

i need to find out how competent translators do this line. not, of course, that i am accusing duchn of attempting to translate it

this is why im branching out into books that are actually for children instead of sticking to Stuff For Language Learners, at least the people writing those care about not boring their audience to death

they arent trying to tell an engaging story and they're committed to using the boringest language and structure possible. Did you know you don't need to do that and the way you're doing it sucks ass

this is the problem with all of duchinese's abridged adaptations, they have absolutely no flavor at all and they're a total chore to slog through

this is from an adaptation of Kafka's metamorphosis for learners. the first two chapters were tell-dont-show-ing the family situation before the beetle transformation (WHY?) and then when the story finally starts this is how they adapted the first line. off to a horrible start 😭

(in my defense though. i found like ways to log on through ways that didn't match my account. scanning codes or using my phone number and whatnot. no!! i want to use my extant account with my email address!!)

i cant read traditional at all but 1) having traditional subs on is better than no subs 2) sometimes i learn some fun things like 种 （禾+中）being the simplified ver of 種 （禾+重）. wow!

can someone who can make apps make a thing for aspiring polyglots where if u fucking have. both the text of an original work and also its translation into ur native language u can put both in and then easily switch back and forth. can someone get on this.

tried to construct that sentence just using 对 not 对待. i know ive heard 这样做 used to mean "behave like this" （eg 你这样做是不对的）but trying to phrase the clause like, "他这样做对老人" doesn't sound correct to me HAHA but i don't know, i really wouldn't know.

this sentence-- "他这样对待老年人, 太残忍了"-- (used as an example for 残忍）made me curious because. this is also the first time ive encountered the character 待 and it made me wonder can you make this sentence grammatically correct without it? way above my grammar level, im just thinking about how i would have

a particular favorite grammar construction of mine just popped up in my show: "想说什么你就说吧". it's not quite as strong an example of the thing i like as the first time i learned it, which was “你想要什么就买什么" but i just really like constructions using 什么+就 like this. just think they're neat.

really stark difference btwn watching word of honor and blood river for example.

listening comprehension watching these dramas goes like

they're talking about interpersonal relationships, etc: 15-25% comprehension
they're talking about Political Factions & whatnot: 2-3% comprehension.
