The top part of the Moon is illuminated. The gray cratered surface stands out against the blackness of space. The Earth appears in the far distance as an upside-down crescent moon shape. There is some lens flare in the top part and center of the image. Credit: NASA

Unravelling the molecular mechanisms causal to type 2 diabetes across global populations and disease-relevant tissues Nature Metabolism - Analysing the causal links of gene expression and protein abundance on type 2 diabetes risk in blood and seven tissues related to the disease from individuals of four...

Our multi-ancestry, multi-tissue MR study for type 2 diabetes is out in Nature Metabolism!
Amazing collab with the Type 2 Diabetes Global Genetics Initiative.
We showed that causal effects are mostly shared across ancestries but are highly heterogeneous across tissues.

Can confirm that the grocery stores in Amherst and Hadley were stocked as normal today (but busy). Despite the 12-18”
we are supposed to get. 😉

Glycerol-3-phosphate activates ChREBP, FGF21 transcription and lipogenesis in citrin deficiency Nature Metabolism, Published online: 14 November 2025; doi:10.1038/s42255-025-01399-3In a mouse model of the rare disease citrin deficiency, the authors discovered that the accumulation of glycerol-3-phosphate leads to ChREBP activation and FGF21 induction. The study identifies glycerol-3-phosphate as a ChREBP-activating ligand, which could resolve paradoxes of FGF21 expression and clarify the logic of lipogenic transcription.

Skeletal muscle eQTL meta-analysis implicates genes in the genetic architecture of muscular and cardiometabolic traits To investigate the underlying mechanisms of complex traits, we performed an eQTL meta-analysis in skeletal muscle and identified 18,818 conditionally distinct signals for 12,283 genes. Colocalization ...

I have a message to the staff at CDC who have dedicated their careers to protecting Americans from health threats of all kinds: Thank you.

Your courage and dedication have improved or saved the lives of people who may not even know it.

We’re with you.

About a year and a half ago, following some cardiac issues, I replaced doom scrolling with reading for enjoyment. Did wonders for my mental health and reduced stress levels enough that my cardiac issue greatly subsided. Kindle and Libby for the win!!

I was a strong advocate for removing the GRE and we stopped requiring it for Fall 2021 admissions. We are likely bringing it back for the next admissions cycle. Letters all good; GPAs hard to compare with grade
inflation across schools; essays are mostly just AI.

I am a first gen college student from a tiny rural farm town in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest where finishing high school wasn’t something everyone did, let alone go to college or even grad school.

And I am a scientist because of the National Institutes of Health.

Recent work from my lab, led by PhD student Chi Zhao, demonstrating just how much of an impact modifiable risk factors can have on T2D risk, no matter how high your genetic risk may be.
