Mount Rainier rises above the far shoreline beyond calm water, with soft pink evening alpenglow lighting the snow-covered upper slopes. Layers of lavender and gray clouds stretch across the sky, while dark trees and scattered waterfront homes form a deep blue band below the mountain. The smooth water in the foreground reflects the cool tones of the scene with a faint hint of pink. The photo feels calm, quiet, and gently luminous.

While I was at the Lake Washington this week, Mount Rainier caught my eye in this beautiful evening light. The pastel sky and quiet reflection gave the whole scene a peaceful feel.

Two distinct galaxies are in the process of merging into one. The one on the left is mostly pale light, while the one on the right has a rich red light around it in a nearly ring-like formation.

Two galaxies collide and are born anew. This image is of Arp 107, two galaxies that have collided and are in the process of combining together. While this may sound like the end these galaxies, it's actually a new beginning. (1/3)
