Considering moving to Codeberg but want to investigate their CI options. Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with moving over?

So this was tough and they aren't really in any order. Also, I probably like almost every game in the series here, but I just picked my favorite entries.

You make not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like on LinkedIn these days. I'm just not spending enough.

I know the syntax and volatility are not everyone's cup of tea, but I really like that Zig sticks to its design philosophy of explicitness at the cost of economics and verbosity at times. I still prefer memory-safety at the end of the day, though.

I haven't looked at the individual blockers but Swift 6 came out in 2024. I think a C++/Swift mixed codebase is actually a really reasonable concept, which is why I made the original post hoping to see if anyone was doing it at scale. I do think it's totally reasonable to just stick with C++ though.

The more I think about this the stranger it feels to me.
x.com/awesomekling... I guess this aged very poorly, but I am legitimately interested in what caused this. They made a huge deal about it, seemingly did little actual coding in Swift, and then just decided a year later to abandon it.

Not surprising but nice that they at least made it clear what their intentions are. As much as I like the idea of Swift being used for writing cross-platform applications and tools, it will probably remain a niche of a niche.

Randomly remembered that weird Godot fork that just made the logo an angry red robot head.

At this point, I think Apple should just open source Xcode and allow the community to contribute to making it a high quality product. I know they open sourced some things, but I’m not sure how much longer a proprietary closed-source IDE makes sense in this world.

Holding out hope that we are not at the end of technical books and documentation written by humans and that much like art people will realize that the struggle of creativity makes things worth reading.

AI as a personality is the same aura as those “gurus” or “software craftsmen” running around during the “everything is Object-Oriented era” with weird titles instead of just being a software developer.

It’s wild how much effort some people will go through to avoid touching a keyboard to write code anymore. Even if you are using these tools, it’s still a good idea to stay close to the code instead of just being on autopilot all day everyday.
