Open access paper discussing postgraduate employment in the UK of only 21%
Graphic showing statistic that 21% of PhD graduates enter academic teaching roles, with the statement “Alt-Ac is impact, not failure.” Source: Prospects / HESA Graduate Outcomes data.
Only ~20% of PhD graduates secure academic roles. Alt-Ac is NOT failure. It is impact beyond the ivory tower. Doctoral skills translate into policy, industry, environment, tech, and society. Knowledge should move anyway, not remain siloed.

My CGeog CPD has reminded me geography is not just multi-faceted but multi-dimensional. I move between human & physical geography, exploring how people experience the physical world they inhabit. Excited to teach students to see themselves within dynamic earth systems.

Another module down to achieve MS Certified Power BI analyst Associate. CPD is never wasted, even though I am an Apple-user most of the time, MS have got it right with this course & it's a powerful feather to have as an educator.

Return to chess win.
I’m playing #Chess again! Dad 1st taught me & he believed it mattered: strategy, patience, critical thinking, and pattern recognition. It trained me long before ethnography did. Proof that early intellectual seeds often flower later in unexpected disciplines.

I earned my "Discover data analysis" badge! I’m so proud to be celebrating this achievement and hope this inspires you to start your own journey @MicrosoftLearn

A cropped photo of a Murderbot cosplay holding a vintage Boba Fett action figure.
A photo of two cosplayers, one dressed as Murderbot and one as a colorful Mandalorian (who is the author of this post). Murderbot holds an iPad that is showing the title screen of Sanctuary Moon.
Was absolutely STUNNED to see a cosplay of Murderbot from @marthawells.com book-turned-tvshow at C2E2 today. 🤩 We love Murderbot!

A small milestone today: excited to publish a simple landing page thanks to @elemntor.bsky.social as the starting point for a full rebuild of my website. I’m looking forward to shaping a space that brings together research on resilience, governance, AI ethics, and creative work in one place
In this short video, Rebalance Earth CEO and Co-Founder Rob Gardner reflects on how a warmer world behaves differently, and why the answers don’t sit in forecasts alone, but in how we restore and manage our natural infrastructure.
