"When a #climate event strikes without warning, everyone involved is forced to navigate a landscape of high inherent uncertainty. In such rapid-onset scenarios, there is no luxury of waiting for perfect data; the situation demands immediate engagement."

Poucas veces un ensaio como “Ruth Matilda Anderson: Tradutora das marxes” de @albars-1980.bsky.social (Laiovento) descóbrenos algo descoñecido. A súa ollada dirixida ás mulleres, ás nenas, á pobreza, ao traballo colectivo. As razóns polas que foi ignorada.

💡 A key insight from this pilot was that citizen science and private-sector R&D can be compatible when both sides are clearly understood and carefully aligned, particularly in relation to ethics, data use, participant roles and scientific integrity. Find out more: zenodo.org/records/1842...

In the ECS private-sector pilots, we worked with STAB VIDA, a Portugal-based biotechnology SME with a strong R&D focus on developing portable and affordable analytical technologies, to explore how citizen science can support research, validation and learning in real-world contexts.
The 𝗘𝗖𝗦 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, together with the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝘂𝗹𝘂 and 𝗘𝗖𝗦𝗔, is co-organising this celebration to bring European and local citizen science initiatives directly to the heart of the city.

Image with a dark blue background. White text reads: 'European citizens' initiative. A way for citizens to invite the European Commission to propose new laws.' Below that, a button says 'Swipe to learn more' with an arrow pointing right. In the bottom left corner is the logo for the European Citizens' Initiative and the EU flag.
Infographic showing the first three steps of the European Citizens' Initiative process. 1. Preparation: Form a group of at least 7 EU citizens from 7 different EU countries. 2. Registration: The Commission checks if the conditions for registration are met. A red speech bubble notes '123 initiatives registered since 2012.' 3. Collection: Organisers have 12 months to collect at least 1 million signatures. A green speech bubble notes '4 initiatives currently open for signature.'
Infographic showing steps 4 and 5 of the European Citizens' Initiative process. 4. Verification: National authorities verify the signatures collected. A yellow speech bubble notes '3 initiatives in verification stage.' 5. Submission: Once the 1 million signatures and required thresholds are verified, the initiative can be submitted to the Commission. A red speech bubble notes '2 initiatives under examination by the Commission.'
Infographic showing step 6 of the European Citizens' Initiative process. 6. Examination and reply: Organisers meet with the Commission, followed by a public hearing in the European Parliament. After, the Commission issues its official response. A blue speech bubble notes '11 initiatives received an official answer.'
Two new European citizens’ initiatives have been registered this week – each one started by a group of citizens who want their idea discussed at EU level.
