This is intentional destruction of spaces of freedom of expression and gathering, of local businesses supporting each other, and of an industry that refuses genAI & occupies the knowledge & creative spaces that the auto-correct machine wants to take over.

The cover of Divinations on Survival by Natalie Linh Bolderston against a starry mountain background.

The cover of Divinations on Survival by Natalie Linh Bolderston against a starry mountain background.

Natalie Linh Bolderston's debut collection traces her matrilineal heritage across continents and centuries, interweaving her voice with those of her mother and grandmother. The poems move between 1930s China, 1970s Vietnam and an ancient landscape populated by mother's, daughters and deities from Vietnamese and Chinese myth.

Divinations on Survival asks what it means to share a lineage in the shadow of war, and traces the complex legacies of survival that emerge as a result of conflict. Always returning to the question of how intimate, familial ties are warped and undone by political turmoil, violence and displacement, the collection distils and expands on stories passed down from grandmother to mother, to daughter, and casts women not as victims, but as powerful protectors, healers and survivors.

Formally innovative and supple, these poems disrupt and unsettle meaning, confronting the colonising force of language to work towards a radical new poetics.

Excited + lucky to announce that, next Spring, we’ll be publishing the second book from one of our favourite poets/writers/humans, Peter Scalpello 🩵🩵🩵We published Peter’s debut collection, Limbic in 2022 and it was such an honour to see the incredible response to their work. Mirrorstage is another phenomenal, important book - a hybrid prose-poetry journey through recovery and psychology that’s at once heartbreaking, sexy, witty, and beguilingly insightful. Out in March 2026!! @pscalpello

New book with the icons @cipherpress.bsky.social coming next year!!

The Gender of Sound by Anne Carson Human history is filled with unacceptable sounds: high-pitched voices, gossip, talkativeness, hysteria, wailing and ritual shouts. Who makes them? Those deviant from or deficient in the masculine idea...

The Gender of Sound by Anne Carson

'Putting a door on the female mouth has been an important project of patriarchal culture from antiquity to the present day. Its chief tactic is an ideological association of female sound with monstrosity, disorder and death.'

A slide with text reading "Announcing the 2025 Dorothies . . ." and then two book covers. On the left the cover for Lana Lin's The Autobiography of H. Lan Thao Lam, which is orange on top with a black and white photograph of Lana Lin and her partner H. Lan Thao Lam in their home. The cover is an overt homage to the 1933 cover of Gertrude Stein's The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, which featured a photograph of Stein and Toklas taken by Man Ray. On the left is the cover for The Endless Week by Laura Vazquez (translated by Alex Niemi). The cover features a work by the French artist Pierette Bloch that looks something like a sea of small black clouds floating on a cream-colored background, and, below this, the title and author and translator names in black text on white.
