Ooh.. that's not bad though.

I need help evo folk... Do we have a name for selection on phenotypes that - across populations of a species - stops them diverging phenotypically (i.e. opposes divergence by drift, makes Qst<Fst). Stops divergence rather than causes convergence, sort of pop-level 'stabilising' process?

While I agree, I wonder if societies may need to look harder at membership benefits to be attractive too. Where institutional publishing agreements already cover journal access and page charges, tangible 'benefits' (beyond group inclusion) for folk paying full membership can be limited no?

No job ad yet, but I'll be hiring a postdoc at Purdue in population genetics/quantitative genetics/genomics in plants. DM if you have relevant experience and are potentially interested.

PhD opp in behavioural Evo genetics with Ned Doctermann. Never been to North Dakota, I imagine it's cold. But if you want to do a PhD in a top notch group with a kind supportive supervisor it's probably a risk worth taking.

Is it time to just end all journals and academic publishers? Revolution over evolution? Not saying it is, but I am wondering...PCI model or biorxiv with peer review?

I really think sample structure is critical (as Joel said) as variance in relatedness is the key for a classical approach (ie using a genome wide relatedness matrix). Can you sample your species in a way that you expect lots of relatedness structure?
