A cohort of graduate students is coming through who-- shook by the uncertainties of the COVID pandemic and forced into the disruptive environment of online learning, leaned into AI writing tools--are really struggling with the demands of doing original research. It is tough out there.

🏺 So pleased to have this out for ACHS #Currents about my adventures in economic history, how markets have valued the past, and how #heritage buys into growth (but doesn’t have to!).

Oxford! an event on colonial statues and contested heritage, April 9 - couldn't have picked a more suitable town for it - www.stx.ox.ac.uk/event/contes...
An updated version of the series' cover drawing showing a museum shelf with meanwhile seven objects: the wooden figure from episode 1 on the top left slot, episode 2's golden crown top centre, the Rosetta Stone from episode 3 in the lower left, right next to it the Okukor rooster from episode 5, episode 6's Cullinan Diamond above and episode 4's two taxidermied lions again to the right it, finally above them the Kakuungu mask.
There are about 10 such masks, but none remains in the Democratic Republic of #Congo: 1.5 m tall & about 10 kg heavy - that is the truly monumental #Kakuungu dance mask.
