Explored and written 4 openings between 11/2 & 17, non-stop thought about it, written in my head, discussed with my love / writing partner, and made notes for many more, to better understand and convey to our readers the true promise of the novel.

A sign with a garden fence and pink and purple flowers spilling over the top. The words are: contempt - "the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn. Or? Content - in a state of peaceful happiness. Eg: "they seemed more content, less bitter."

I rarely make statement about what ppl should or shouldn't do, but this one seems like a sound question anyone can ask themselves about their cast of mind: contempt or contentment?

The word "hope" in pink on a white background. An outstretched arm, holding a poppy makes the "o" in hope.

Yeah, the world is kinda unhinged right now. But hope isn’t fairy dust. It makes the heart more loving, lighter and stronger.

As writers, it's important that we keep thinking outside the bot.

Hahaha, love that metaphor.

Unbelievable how timely this is. Just yesterday I started working on an outline for a short story, and realizing how different that is going to be from a novella and starting to do the research. And here you are with your seminar. Perfect.

Yes, medical doctors stitched my liver back together after a car accident. But a naturopath saved me from a pacemaker, and another naturopath saved me from a diagnosis that would have hooked me on a lifetime of medications that make you feel ill at all times.

I agree. Just as many times pharmaceuticals and allopathy have helped me with my health, alternative medicines and naturopathy have done the same, if not more often.

I get it now. Yeah, every twenty years it's the next brave new world.

I'm reading Die Schönheit der Nacht and Beautiful Nights concurrently. As expected, it's like reading two different books, even as the transl. is faithful, because my American Self has different lenses than my German self.

Noch nicht jetzt. Not sure why you ask. To explain myself: Ich bin ein ernster writer in revisions an dem ersten Roman. Before that, I wrote only nonfiction. For zwei Jahren, my beloved and I started a lovely queer eco-romance. I have essays on Medium.com and one small book, selfpubbed, on Amazon.

The silver lining of being catfished for a second by an impersonator of yours is that it made me discover you. Wow, gorgeous writing! Can't wait to get Beautiful Nights and continue reading. Now, *that's* literary writing. Thank you!

@ninageorgenovelist.bsky.social

This account attempted to catfish me by impersonating you. I reported it to Bluesky & posted a warning on my profile.
I knew I was being catfished when I saw your brilliant writing. It would be ludicrous to think that you would ask to swap pages with this unknown.

Writers beware!

FlüsterndeNina @booksforeverr.bsky.social is impersonating author Nina George on Bluesky, offering to swap chapters. Nina George warns on her official site that this is a scam. The real author's account: ‪@ninageorgenovelist.bsky.social‬

A watercolor-style painting of a woman. A sunlit forest trail leads into the gentle foothills of the PNW. The woman leans against the thick trunk of a tall pine with the kind of smile of pure joy that spending time in nature elicits. Her strawberry-blond hair is short and tousled. She wears a blue T-shirt and backpack, with mountains, tall evergreen trees, and colorful wildflowers in the background. This is Lilla, one of the MCs from the eco-romance WIP "This Wild and Soulful Love." We can assume she is gazing at Sydney, a nonbinary climate worker and her lover and best friend.

Lilla and I slow-hike the Pacific Northwest coast, holding hands. She touches leaves, calls to birds, breathes in green scents with bliss. “Isn’t this great?” Her smile is wide. Heat drops through the canopy, bringing moisture to her lip. I lean in—wait, I’m the writer! She’s kissing Sydney, not me.

A watercolor of sunlight in hues of pale yellow and white with Mary Oliver's poem superimposed:
Is this not just perfect?
“You don’t want to hear the story
of my life, and anyway
I don’t want to tell it, I want to listen
to the enormous waterfalls of the sun.
And anyway it’s the same old story - - -
a few people just trying,
one way or another,
to survive.
Mostly, I want to be kind.
And nobody, of course, is kind,
or mean,
for a simple reason.
And nobody gets out of it, having to
swim through the fires to stay in
this world.
(from, Dogfish)”
― Mary Oliver

Watercolor flowers below the following text: What big thing did I learn from my characters while writing my current romance novel?

While plotting their arcs, I thought I knew how they’d feel at certain points. But when we got there, I realized they were much deeper than me. I needed to listen closely and level up to understand what they’re actually going through, and what they needed to say about it.

Close up of a chickadee standing in the open palm of a man's hand. A lush, green hedge is in the background.

Am I wrong? Tired of all the literary writing that laments the meaninglessness of modern Life. Okay then, take it as a given already. And then *make* meaning. Otherwise, this is just wallowing.

Summer Surreal Halfway through a strange year

Just dropped my first Medium.com essay this year. It's a callback to my NYE message for 2025. It’s giving a soft boi summer debrief, and some ‘how do we heal / what do we do’ energy.”
