Female octopuses throw rocks at males that bother them, documented in Octopus tetricus
Illustration of a smiling tooth fairy with blue wings holding a tooth, on a soft green background with decorative leaves. Text reads โPrivacy and the Tooth Fairy.โ
Green background with small smiling tooth illustrations. Text reads: โWe lost a first tooth in our household recently. In trying to figure out the current Tooth Fairy rate, we ended up somehow with a full term sheet with the Tooth Fairy.โ
Green background with tooth illustrations. Text reads: โAs a lawyer, it was entertaining to โnegotiateโ with the Tooth Fairy (fine, ChatGPT), but one question stood out: What does the Tooth Fairy do with the teeth and why does she need it?โ
Green background with tooth illustrations. Text reads: โWe accept and pass on a paradigm where we sent a piece of ourselves off to a mysterious fairy without asking the why or how. Even when we know dental records can be used to identify people.โ
We sent a tooth to the Tooth Fairy without asking why.
We do the same with our data every day.
Not about saying no.
About asking better questions:
Why.
How.
Where.
With whom.
Thatโs how you raise kids who donโt just shareโ
they understand.
(Also: we still paid. And weโre flossing.) ๐งต ๐๐ฉโ๐ฌ
Image of hills in Petrified Forest set against a blue sky with scattered clouds.
Did a long weekend in Arizona and finally visited Petrified Forest National Park. It was so beautiful in an otherworldly way. #nationalparks #traveltuesday
Guilty. #kidlitchat
Love this! It's so easy to lose track of the small milestones! #kidlitchat
And January lasted about that long too. #kidlitchat
I don't understand how it's already March. #kidlitchat
We're still so new to this that we're still figuring things out and learning how everything works. Creatively, still continuing to write and edit. There's not enough time for all the ideas we have. #kidlitchat
Exciting!! #kidlitchat

Tuesday keeps creeping up on me. Today's #traveltuesday photo is from Zermatt, when we walked down part of the Gornergrat and had great views of the Matterhorn. Zermatt, Switzerland. September 2018.
Thanks for hosting! What a fun time
It's iconic. My older kid is just old enough now where he appreciates the book. #kidlitchat
Same. Was obsessed with L'Engle as a kid. #kidlitchat
Woodland dance is the one I can read to myself forever. It's so calming #kidlitchat
As long as I'm not alone in this. #kidlitchat
Oh and John Scieszka's books (like the Stinky Cheeseman) were formative in my childhood and inspirational now. I loved them #kidlitchat
Yup. Same. #kidlitchat
I'm a little sad that mine don't ask for her books anymore. They used to be a reading time staple #kidlitchat
I love reading Sandra Boynton books. They really never get old...except maybe I've had to read Moo Baa LaLa enough in my lifetime ๐ #kidlitchat
There are so many #kidlit creators who inspire me, but there are a handful like Chris Ferrie, Ruth Spiro, Joan Holub, and Cara Florence who have inspired the types of stories we've been working on. They are brilliant at taking very complex science and history and making it kid friendly. #kidlitchat
Quakes home opener ๐ค๐ Let's go Quakes!!
Worst. Episode. EVER.
The forefront of the picture is the cover of the book Margo's Got Money Troubles, which has the image of a young blonde woman lying on a pink couch set against a purple background. The background image is of money falling.
Wasn't quite prepared for Margo's Got Money Trouble by Rufi Thorpe, but I was hooked on the ride. It's funny, relevant, and heartwarming. There's found family and OnlyFans. The privacy nerd in me wasn't fully thrilled with the ending, but loved the rest. ๐๐๐
My #traveltuesday photo this week is of the Eros Bendato statue in Krakow, Poland. We did a weekend trip out there over Easter in 2019.
The nature of the types of books we're trying to do (about privacy and security) often starts with the "what if?" I take the issue I want to cover and figure out how it can be distilled down into simple concepts and go from there. #kidlitchat
Guilty. #kidlitchat
