A special thank you to @marishawkins.bsky.social for joining the project and contributing her expertise and classroom-based pedagogical insight to the activity adaptations throughout. Klett’s team - Eduard, Barbara, Maje, and Marta - were a pleasure to work with throughout the process!!

The resource includes three sections:
1️⃣A theoretical introduction to ADI;
2️⃣A step-by-step guide to implementing the most popular ADI strategies;
3️⃣An extensive bank of suggestions to adapt, modify, and enrich selected activities from each unit across Levels 1–4.
Their commitment made it possible to create a resource that supports the series’ users in differentiating, modifying, and enriching instruction while working within its existing curricular framework.
I'm very proud to share that this effort resulted in a resource designed to complement Levels 1-4, with a focus on adaptations for an ADI approach. I’m especially appreciative of Klett’s willingness to invite a perspective that extends and deepens the theoretical grounding of the series.
🎉📚New Publication! 📚🎉
I’ve been a critic of textbooks in language learning for some time. (You all read my dissertation, right?!) So, imagine my surprise when Klett World Languages invited me to author a supplementary resource for their Reporteros Spanish-language textbook series. #langchat
🤦♂️ why??
Hearing ✨ the ✨ Terry Gross say that she doesn’t like a book that’s 500 pages, and instead thinks that 300 is plenty sufficient…. Feels so validating.
This is a GENIUS way of getting everyone in on RT. I love acting out chapters, but always hate that often I can’t get enough of my students to legit roles in the action!
😂 🤣
It’s that time of year again.
Don’t forget to pass it on!

Not to mention that book just sucks.
Bonus 4/3
In case this helps you interpret those numbers…
Once the semester was complete, I ran a correlation analysis to see if there was a relationship between the amount of practices they say they did regularly and their average in each of the categories of the gradebook.
Here’s the result. * = statistical significance.
What do you think? 3/3
Midway through the semester, I asked students to reflect and check off how many they do regularly.
I tallied their responses and held on to them until the end of the semester. 2/3
You may find this interesting #langchat and #edusky.
I tried to deconstruct what I consider to be realistic and attainable micro-practices (before, during, and after class) of successful students in my classes. Intention is to be clear regarding expectations and encourage successful habits. 1/3
Excited that the March NECTFL Review issue features a peer-reviewed article I co-authored with Nancy Zimmerman of @kutztownu.bsky.social on the @psmla.bsky.social Peer Mentoring Program and its impact on language teacher growth and sustainability! #langchat

“Thirty percent of Americans read at a level that you would expect from a 10-year-old child. … It is actually hard to imagine — that every third person you meet on the street has difficulties reading even simple things.”
Oof. 🤦♂️

Whenever my brain gets all whipped up, I try to center myself on my core beliefs and principles. So, I wrote a blog post about what I see as the core aspects of teaching a language for proficiency. I'd be curious what your reactions to this might be...! ❤️🌈

Presentational speaking or interpersonal? What level are we talking? Novice? Intermediate?

Just seeing now my typo. Meant to say “with projects worth *sharing” 🤦♂️
Any #langchat teachers conversant in the action research process with experience or projects worth starting? LMK!
I think Honing Our Craft is a great resource. While the live chat may not have been what you expected, I think there’s definitely value in sharing your thoughts publicly as you read it. Thanks for your insight and contributions!
Lots of great #authres for Novice #French learners #fle available on social media this week. Here's what I found with a quick search: docs.google.com/presentation... #langchat #Frenchteachers
Don’t worry, everyone. Linda McMahon was a French major last time she was in school… in 1969. Surely nothing has changed since then and we can count on her advocacy and support for multilingualism and global perspectives in our schools!

Do we really not know? I was just mentioning today at my #nectfl25 presentation the case of Nicaraguan Sign Language. There are scholarly accounts (a couple I have off hand attached) but Stephen Pinker also uses it as a foundational vignette in his book The Language Instinct. Worth exploring.
