Our #amla604 class enjoyed rich discussion w/ @grahnforlang.bsky.social tonight's 1st synchronous session. In #edtech, Leslie described categories including gamification, audio & video tools to capture interpersonal exchanges, social media, accessing #authres. Thx for anchoring ideas pedagogically.
Talking with colleagues last night about how to implement authentic resources for Chinese language teaching . One of the challenges is the lack of #authres collections out there. Here is a list of resources I've compiled so far from my website and Pinterest boards: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Mira Canion is always a great speaker. She talked about chosing authentic resources that spark conflict to ignite conversation. Why have I never done this? I've used #authres for reading comprehension and cultural discussions, but why not PQA? Now that Mira points it out, it seems obvious. 🧵9/14
Critical Framing involves discussing the text as you work with it, but also interrogating it. I.E., I ❤️ the song Guapo by @senorwooly.com. It's catchy, funny & teaches high frequency vocab (not #authres) but I wouldn't use it without discussing that the narrator would be a bad boyfriend. #LangChat
Yes, good point. The authentic texts I bring in are almost all non-fiction. I bet poetry could work with novices, too. Short, short, short. #AuthRes #Authentic #LangChat
#LangChat if you do use #authres #AuthenticTexts (especially if you use them with novices), what kinds of texts do you use?

An example of how I use #AuthRes #AuthenticTexts is that for the past several weeks my Spanish 1 students have been reading the CI novel #Laritza by Kristy Placido. One day, I asked them to read authentic infographics about Hispanics in the US. #LangChat
I'm going to be honest, I use #authres as more of a side dish. I use them, but not every day, and they're not the centerpiece of my curriculum. I center on comprehensible input novels created for language learners, and I bring in authentic texts as supplements. #LangChat
Lots of great #authres for Novice #French learners #fle available on social media this week. Here's what I found with a quick search: docs.google.com/presentation... #langchat #Frenchteachers
Using one of my favorite #authres ... old tweets! Students will highlight the benefits of traveling mentioned, then respond to the tweet with a complex sentence and a follow-up questions. We're working our presentational skills while preparing ourselves to work on interpersonal #langchat.

A4 anytime I'm working on a thematic unit, I search on twitter. So many #authres that are perfect length for my kiddos. I pin lots of ideas but I'm terrible about emailing tweets to myself... Meaning I email myself 1000s #langchat
Calling my #earlylang colleagues who are ACTFL LLC members: Upcoming webinar on #authres just for Elementary! A great follow up to NNELL Café:
