Update on UKRI funding situation.

Summary: it is mostly bad news, and with significant uncertainties around new funding model.

This project would not have been possible without the incredible Liverpool Roller Birds, and the wonderful @emmottlab.bsky.social
at @liverpooluni.bsky.social, and with support from the @microbiologysociety.org Outreach & Engagement Grant!

To clarify, I'm referring to NHS pilot service provision-based ethics

Both are lancet group journals, and in the second case lancet group advice was sought.

I see @lancetmicrobe.bsky.social from the lancet group published a study yesterday under pilot study ethics. This is great.

What is concerning is that a competing study was rejected a month ago from @ebiomedicine.bsky.social, AFTER PASSING PEER REV, as pilot study ethics insufficient. What changed?
