Exciting to see these stats from #BSF25 - over 17,400 visitors, 114 events and 95% enjoying the Festival! We had a great time hosting our 'What the Phage?!' stand, and talking to visitors about #phage and the work of our Hub to advance #phagetherapy for respiratory infections in people with CF.

In a new blog, the BSA's Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Martha Kirby, reflects on the British Science Festival #BSF25 in Liverpool, and on the importance of hands-on science education - for all ages - that engages and inspires:

We've been given access to the @britsciassoc.bsky.social British Science Festival 2025 asset bank, full of fabulous pictures from all the amazing events that took place. But we're just going to go with this little guy. What's his origin story? Goody or baddy? Favourite sandwich? Who knows! #BSF25
Had such a fantastic time at the British Science Festival on Saturday. It was a joy to connect with so many brilliant researchers. Thank you to @britsciassoc.bsky.social for making me this year’s Award Lecturer for Science & the Arts - it’s been incredible! #BSF25 #histmed #disabilityhistory
Were you there? Last Friday, we mean, when researchers from UoL worked with pop fans to help chart Liverpool's lost music venues. If you want to find out how it went, listen to Richard Anderson chat to Ngunan Adamu on Radio Merseyside(1hr 32mins in). #BSF25
Brilliant to have this music event as part of #BSF25. More info on the #musicmappingLiverpool project here: livemusicresearch.org/maps/liverpool/
The landslide model
A BGS staff member stands next to the landslide model. She smiles to the camera.
Another BGS staff member stands with visitors, demonstrating the landslide model. A child is interacting with it.
We were invited to take part in the 194th British Science Festival in Liverpool last weekend. BGS brought our landslide model which allowed guests to take part in a live, small-scale demonstration to understand what causes landslides, and the damage they can cause.
Thanks for having us #BSF25!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the Festival such a success!! 💙 #BritishScienceFestival #BSF25 @britsciassoc.bsky.social

Liverpool is BRILLIANT. A first visit, and hopefully not the last! My after-day-job-research may take me back here for book II, with any luck 🥊🙏🏻
Working at the British Science Festival #BSF25 has been an experience. My first, and our 194th. Weird and wonderful. See you next year in Southampton!
Screen grab of info for Mind Games show at Quirky Quarter 8.30, 13 Sept
After a brilliant evening at the Science Comedy Spectacular last night - with lots of clever & funny people (and the comics weren't bad either 😜)
It's back to #Liverpool #BSF25 for 'Mind games: Puzzles, the brain and you!' at 8.30pm. Be there and... you know the shape @britsciassoc.bsky.social
Ah, but thankfully science doesn't stop for the rain! Onwards and upwards 💪 #bsf25
The stunningly intricate Liverpool Chinese Arch
Not the best of weather at #bsf25 in Liverpool but the Chinese Arch is still spectacular in any weather

Photo of Meg in drag-style scary moon head and white makeup, making a dramatic gesture in front of a ladder wrapped in foil.
Meg in a beige sweater and pants, white moon makeup and headpiece, speaks into a mic. A fellow performer in creepy mask and leopard print trousers sits on a chair.
The scientists who attended our first annual gatherings 190+ years ago couldn't have anticipated this sort of thing in 2025... but we loved Meg Hodgson's show MOONFACE at Unity Theatre last night. Don't worry, there's still science talks a-plenty at the Festival! Something for everyone at #BSF25 🌝
There's room for us ALL in #science, folks - whether you're into heels or flats, brights or neutrals.
This is why I love the community-focused approach at events like #bsf25. Yes, there's fab science going on in academia and industry, but it's also about how we as a culture "see" scientists too...
Thanks! Yep, I'm co-presenting one of the #bsf25 Presidential sessions, alongside Chamion Caballero and Arlene Nelson. I think there should be some terrific debate and qus in the room today and I can't wait to see everyone!
