For the past year, Germany's asylum agency has been keeping secret a report it uses to justify deportations to Syria.
It was only released after we reached out to ask why it contains inaccuracies.

Why did Germany keep a report used to justify deportations to Syria a secret?

Meanwhile, at least we now know the latest grotesque euphemism Frontex deploys for the murderous tactics - such as boat rammings - routinely used by border authorities to deter migrants at sea:
'dynamic engagement'

"[C]overt foreign influence."
Israel "secretly hired a Toronto law firm in an effort to stop the Canadian government from accurately labeling wines from Israel’s illegal settlements in the Palestinian West Bank."

This email, and others more, reveal how the Israeli government hired the law firm from 2019 to 2021 to influence the outcomes of a case in Canadian courts involving Israeli settlement wines.

"I spoke with [redacted], and he knows Gil Sinclair (the lawyer pleading for the AGC)," wrote an associate at Toronto law firm Torys in an email.
"He suggested that we could reach out to her on your behalf”.
The email's recipient: officials at Israel's Ministry of Justice
"This is an outrageous example of covert foreign influence,” said @mbueckert.bsky.social of CJPME. “The Israeli government is using deception to prevent Canadian authorities from adhering to international law." breachmedia.ca/covert-influ...
Israel secretly hired a Toronto law firm to ensure wines from its illegal settlements would not be accurately labelled in Canada.
Anas Ambri reveals Israel’s efforts to lobby the federal government, over fears the labelling could set precedents elsewhere.

The moral panic in the EU institutions about 'migrants' has got to such a level that, far from capitalising on the net benefits the evidence shows #refugees bring overall over time, more and more public money is being wasted unaccountably on expensive deportations: euobserver.com/205312/the-s...
First launched in late 2022, the so-called High Level Network for Returns (HLNR) used the October 7 Hamas terror attack on Israel as a justification to enforce the exchange of data of individuals with a deportation order and flagged as “potential terrorists”.

After pro-Palestine activists, the HLNR started looking at ways to deport Syrians next, especially after the fall of the Assad regime.
To this end, they engaged the services of .@Frontex, which was happy to oblige.

After the October 7 Hamas attack, the HLNR developed EU-wide guidelines on how to use SIS, the Schengen Information System, to collect information on activists by declaring them "potential terrorists".
It also discussed using special charter flights to deport them.

For @euobserver.com, @cosettemolijn.bsky.social and I looked into the High-Level Network for Returns (HLNR), a secret group pushing for more deportations, using rather extreme policies.
One of these policies entailed using an EU-wide police database to track pro-Palestine and climate activists

My latest for @algorithmwatch.org
@frontex.bsky.social is building an 'AI chatbot application' to encourage people to 'self-deport', at a cost of 0.5 million euros.
The project was green-lit by the agency's Fundamental Rights Office, though it lacked a "solid theoretical framework".
Exclusive: leaked documents show that Israel paid the Belgian law firm Van Bael & Bellis to draft 4 legal memos, with the goal of criminalising the @bdsmovement.bsky.social stickers campaign in Europe.
Exclusive: leaked documents show that Israel's top choice law firm for its covert anti-@bdsmovement.bsky.social programme thought the project put it in "an untenable position".
The law firm ultimately declined the $800/hr job.
