Brilliant green aurora borealis fills the night sky over Fairbanks, Alaska in mid-April, photographed looking upward through bare birch and spruce trees. Multiple bright green ribbons and curtains swirl and arc across the frame in different directions, with a diffuse green glow filling the sky between them. A satellite trail is visible as a short streak in the upper right portion of the sky. The silhouetted bare branches of birch trees frame the upper left, with spruce trees along the bottom edge. Stars are visible in the darker gaps between the aurora curtains.
Mid-April aurora over Fairbanks, a few years back. It's snowing pretty hard here at the moment. This feels like a good day to look back at better skies.
