Loved it.
Have often meant to re-read (but still haven’t—too many other things beckoning from my TBR pile).

Anyone else find it fascinating that Harry Potter fell off of Top 10 Most Challenged Books list right around the time JKR went full-blown TERF?
The people who spent more than a decade challenging those books disappeared? Had a change of heart? Decided she was one of them?
I’d second that motion, as I drink tea every day, but coffee usually only on weekends.
A little mini bottle of Puroll advanced hand sanitizer was supposed, triple action, moisturizer, and refreshing aloe gel… that I find smells like a mixture of gasoline and turpentine, and instantly starts to make my throat close.
Me, putting a freebie up for grabs in the staff room just now:
Open box from Viasox company with ankle length summer socks and longer socks, all in various funky prints, loosely strewn so each is partially visible. Patterns include koi fish, tiger stripes, galaxy star clouds, spring tree blossoms…?. All of them are compression socks to aid with circulation so my ol’ man veins won’t cause swelling of my left ankle and calf.
Haven’t done many #LibrarianFashion posts for awhile, but new direction for my snazzy socks game, so time…
Tested several pairs of compression socks from this company. Worked very well to reduce/stop my left leg from swelling—just ordered/rec’d a bunch more.
(Various tests…just old man veins😢)
Hmmm…
Very intrigued by these novellas re-released as one vol.
Had a major soft spot for ol’ Westerns movies for what I consider to be absolutely kitschy fromage of machismo cowboy/sheriff/outlaw/antihero stories…the taciturn tough guy outsider hero of the frontier…funny, even when not meant to be.
Not here much lately…miss it a little…maybe coming back more…
But…
Weighs on me sometimes how posts, fun in the moment (day or two, then rapidly relegated, old news) have very little…longevity/legacy…like…meaningless…as past works on socials die off, reposting too much old stuff is…gauche
IDK,weird mood
After school on a Friday afternoon, this video (which I’ve now watched three more times since it keeps on giving)…well, it takes on a new resonance. Weary, so, “Same same robo-runner.”
Getting closer…
I have just watched this six times.
It’s the perfect wabi-sabi moment. It’s slapstick. It’s hubris tragedy. It’s existential absurdity. It’s hilarious joy.

Exactly. I do like that original name the surrealists gave the game! Though, for my K-5 audience, I tend to just call it surrealist poetry/drawing, folding paper monsters/poems.
School day just ended a short time ago, last kids hit the road, and I luxuriously stretched, sighed, started the after school crash/relax, thinking TGIF!!!
Then, several minutes later…
WAIT, what…?
This was only Wednesday?
But it FELT like it should already be the end of Thursday—NO FAIR.
After all fill out Box 4, open up the slips, read your weird poems…enjoy!
Surrealist collaborative poetry works in much the same way as my video of the surrealist folding monster game…

Pic shows the surrealist poetry game mentioned in 🧵
Each kid writes a noun phrase in Box 1; folds it behind, so hidden; all pass slips to next kid; all do Box 2 with a verb phrase; fold back, pass; all do Box 3 preposition + direct object noun; fold, pass; 4 is idiom phrase, witty summary, etc

A lot going on in this photo… First of all, there’s a paper, Mr. Hunt on the wall: A self portrait drawing, which is below a squared-off word bubble picture frame thingy I made…and taped into the word bubble is a sign saying, “Check out the mini-museum exhibit!” Next to that is a 3x3’ white board…I screw-mounted a low-profile wooden display case divided into six boxes into the centre…in it are various artifacts (fossilized shark tooth, anthracite in a jar, selenite, urchin spines…) Surrounding the case are two “Don’t Touch” signs and photocopied sheets of the specimen descriptor cards. At the top of the whiteboard, in blue marker, it says, Identify the Artifacts: Read the description cards and see if you can match them to the objects…Look With Your Eyes [not your hands].
A close-up pic of the display case described in previous ALT.
My new library display project:
Mini-Museum Exhibit!
For several yrs I had a monthly subscription w/ (highly rec) Box of Matter (cool science-y stuff); got it for the library for one year—had a little unboxing sci club…
Been meaning to do a rotating display for ages—TA-DA!

I’ve also been doing this very fun (usually) collaborative surrealist poetry game with some classes (two of which Gr5 groups had too many kinda funvibewreckers; but the others loved it)…that I’ve taught off and on for years.
I’ll try to remember to share details of how it works soon…
Some samples of simile/metaphor writing prompts to create lines that reflect student personalities. Qs like What texture are you, What kind of music are you, What piece of furniture are you…? And because those tend to get “I am” repetition lines, one sheet has alternative line suggestions, like I used to be, I’ll never be, You want me to be…etc.
A shot of a large work table strewn with writing materials, the previously ALT-discussed ideas sheets kids busily writing away (just arms and hands visible; I never put photos of kids’ faces online).
Doing some poetry writing w/ several classes lately to celebrate natnl poetry month. One class doing some extended work on “poem about myself” is producing some cool stuff using metaphor/simile descriptors, alternative line beginnings/opposites, line break experimentation, thoughtful titles…

Well, the Dr Z rec is sure a fun diversionary #LibrarianSoundtrack —thx; listening now while surfing bsky. I usually don’t love instrumental stuff (I need lyrics, even if I’m not listening to them), but these IDK retro surf music vibes are really cool.
And because of our flower fixation 🤣 we now also have a growing vase collection, which helps us support local artist shops, thrift/vintage shops…and increase the number of beautiful objects in our lives.
Some good vices!
😜
Nice!
Love having a bouquet of flowers in the house. Beautiful and uplifting. My wife and I buy weekly little bouquets May through September from a fab local flower cart.
Now, we’ve got a line on regularly getting bouquets during the fall/winter from a local indie café with a florist connection…
Relate! Sorta similar:
Regularly skip getting a haircut for weeks on end because it’s just one more thing too many to plan/commitment for my free time.
They do rock.

There’s a book for that…
Since it came up with a friend again recently…to-may-to, to-mah-to… pssssttttt… ZINE Hot Tip: (sound like an insider) Say “zeen” (not z-eye-n) [ zine = short for magazine = like a mini-magazine = zine ] Spread the word; help others be in the know (although it’s not really that big a deal). https://www.instagram.com/p/DXCwV8mgR44/?igsh=YjF2eDJwNnE3eXAz

(sound like an insider)
Say “zeen”
(not z-eye-n)
[ zine = short for magazine = like a mini-magazine = zine ]
Spread the word; help others be in the know
(although it’s not really that big a deal).
Heading into the weekend, leaving you with a playlist I made as part of a cool zine project I did awhile back…and which I’ve been listening to the last few days again.

My name is on there.
Just cannot believe that a Canadian government (at least a centrist one) would cut library services to inmates when learning/reading access is obvious prevention/rehabilitation to reduce recidivism.
