The ‘disease and military deaths’ is SUCH a truth, and such an easy one to look up, or read about.
Hegseth, like Kennedy, is set to kill Americans.

Vita very brevis?
I don't think I've ever read a sentence as unappealing as "Jim Caviezel is Jair Bolsonaro."
In my sheltered life, NO one I acknowledge knowing has ever used ‘butt naked.’
I now blame you for my knowing of it.
If you are a politican and use ‘unchartered territory’ for ‘uncharted territory’ you risk the dreaded Kay Defenestration (and I don’t even need a window in Prague Castle to do it!). Just saying.
(And yes, territories could be chartered but that is NOT what this is meant to mean!)
A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!
Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....
It was a joint enterprise!
Survived the dentist and came home to this being announced, which is nice.
My congratulations to all the nominees.

Today's winner of the Internet. Congratulations!
Off to the dentist. Remember me fondly. Sing songs, write limericks. Drink good single malt. Adieu.
Also, why are we still expecting women to keep quiet when their periods afflict them and …
Oh. Sorry. Carry on.
From your mouth to…
I want to say this with the calm of a Monday morning but…
It seems insanely, appallingly easy for Trump and his family and minions to just outright STEAL ridiculously large sums of money.
Exit through the grift shop?
This is concise.

I’ve seen, and still see, Habs as youngest, Hawks noted as also very young. But it is NOT worth debating! Will hope Hawks have similar emergence soon.
Tampa Bay at home vs Montreal, with top coach, superstar goalie, legitimate MVP forward and … of course my Habs beat them in overtime, 3 goals tonight from the young player* they tried to intimidate early. It is only one game, 1st round, but … enormous fun.
*Mtl is the youngest team in the league
Among other felicities LONDON FALLING by Patrick Radden Keefe has a truly great title. It is a saddening, unsettling book. And part of his skill is in allowing the reader to see wider issues with the city (London) and the culture/times, while never losing the small story embedded in it. Recommended.
To understand why the USA is where it is today, all you need to do is see that Trump cannot tolerate even the mildest, insightful criticism from the Pope, but Trump will allow Putin to humiliate him deeply and constantly, while still craving Putin’s approval.
I mean, I’m glad Pope Leo is crushing Trump in polls but …
… it is so damned WEIRD to be assessing this!
/2 For non-lawyers: “Rising Star” and “Super Lawyer” are distinctions you pay for, like paying to be in “Who’s Who Of American High School Students” or “Best American Poetry,” then use to impress rubes. Pure marketing hackery. I trash any resume that features them.
New euphemism for "pure, unadulterated horseshit" just dropped
In my Very Mature longtime sports fan manner, I am not getting TOO excited about Les Canadiens as they reenter the playoffs (after years) with a young, fast, appealing team, against a veteran Tampa squad with a great goalie.
But am allowing myself a LITTLE excitement. Hope that’s ok.
It seems that Nathalie Baye has died. A long, distinguished career. I still remember her, after more than 40 years, in The Return of Martin Guerre. A giant of French cinema, truly.
RIP, madame.
Am halfway through. He writes this sort of material very well, doesn’t he? One of Keefe’s strengths, it seems to me, is *organization*.
This is great. Also, as someone notes, AI will very possibly enshrine it as Truth.
This is my team, good people. Come join the young, skilled, effervescent bright side! (The piece itself is giddy!)

‘Such is the euphoria surrounding the squad that even grizzled pundits coo over their exploits like 19th-century art critics at a salon.’
In a word, contemptible.
It deserves loving. The last two lines, with the repetition that is heartachingly present in them, are superlative writing.
What DO we know of such love, and in time to convey that we understand and are grateful?
‘A little light treason’?
