The Pentagon is building National Guard “quick reaction forces” for U.S. cities — troops “trained for civil unrest and rapid deployment.”

The timeline most people missed:
They’re expected to be operational by April 2026. A few weeks from now.

Me too, I used to dance lindy hop, blues and Argentine tango before I got Long Covid (and belly dance too when I was younger). I miss that flying through the air feeling so much 😭

It’s been five years since John Prine died of COVID-19. If you’re so inclined (and able — it’s long), here’s an essay I wrote about how his songs helped me accept a life with the debilitating, deeply marginalized chronic illness ME/CFS. 1/3

When scholars of authoritarianism and fascism leave U.S. universities because of the deteriorating political situation here, we should really worry.

The cost of cuts to disability benefits: Our open letter to the Chancellor | Disability charity Scope UK Right now, the government is considering changes to disability benefits. But for millions of disabled people, these benefits are a lifeline. They are the difference between surviving and being pushed ...

🏠 Without PIP, 700,000 more disabled households could be pushed into poverty.

Cutting this or other disability benefits would increase hardship for some of the poorest in society - something morally indefensible.

The media won't tell you that people are still suffering from & becoming disabled by Long Covid. Each infection increases risk, even a mild case & even if you think you did fine previously. Getting repeatedly infected is not sustainable & public health is worse than ever. Protect yourself & others.

Chart from this recent article in the New York Times showing a steep increase in disability rates after 2020: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/03/09/upshot/covid-lockdown-five-year-charts.html

As exemplified by the title’s misspelling Covid causes cognitive dysfunction.

Started the day crying, seeing everyone sharing all their #LongCovidAwarenessDay stories. How many more will become disabled? Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away. We need real investments in research on sophisticated therapeutics. (Note the irony in the chart’s title)

Opinion | The free-living bureaucrat Michael Lewis on Heather Stone of the Food and Drug Administration.

My friend & colleague Heather Stone has worked tirelessly to fight for treatment for people with rare & incurable diseases, including #LongCOVID. This well-written article follows her work at FDA & the coinciding quest to cure a fatal infection: Balamuthia. 🧪

This. If masking everywhere is too much, start with hospitals, doctor’s offices, and elder care facilities. It’s a small thing to help make these places safer for immunocompromised people like me.

paresthesia (face) 2016

An embroidery of the outline of a face in bone coloured thread on bone coloured linen. The forehead, cheeks, jaws, and temples are covered in filigree lines in dark blues, greens, and yellows. There are French knots spaced out along the lips. Lines of beige strands of thread are strung from the knots across the face in a geometric formation.

For this #InternationalWomensDay I’m sharing one of my symptomatology embroideries, paresthesia (face) (2016). Paresthesias are tingling sensations. Mine are caused by #MECFS, a disease affecting mostly women, and the symptoms are often ignored or not taken seriously because of medical misogyny. 🧶

US added to international watchlist for rapid decline in civic freedoms Civicus, an international non-profit, puts country alongside Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan and Serbia

My fellow Americans, we officially hit a new low today.

Thanks to felon Trump’s all out assault on democracy, we are now on a civil rights loss warning list with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Italy, Pakistan & Serbia.

Nonviolent civil resistance is a must!

Cutting disability benefits doesn't 'incentivise work'. But it does penalise and humiliate the disabled, and that's the real point.

The pwME in vid calling for return to “old fashioned convalescence” reminded me of a neighbor who got mono in 1950s. Her doc advised family to support her rest. Took 6 months, but she recovered from bedbound never to relapse.

It’s not total nonsense that there is lost wisdom, but RFKs BS is not it.

If you don’t wear a mask bc you’re worried friends or family will pull away, know that none of those ppl would be there for you anyway if you come down with a debilitating post-infectious illness like #LongCovid or #MECFS. 🧵

As a sick person, I know the love that must have been in that house and want to believe that some of that somehow remains now that she and he have passed on. I want more for ppl to honor that love by breaking the veil in themselves that makes disabled ppl so foreign. 3/3

‘There will meet some learned gentlemen’: Hogarth’s Coffee House at St. John’s Gate - Museum of the Order of St John Richard Hogarth, father of the engraver and painter William, set up his coffee shop in 1704 at St. John’s Gate, Clerkenwell

Watched a YT vid abt English artist William Hogarth. He supported one of the first orphanages, in part bc he’d spent 5 yrs growing up in a debtor’s prison w his family, after his father’s attempt to start a Latin-speaking coffee house failed. Can we stop listening to the ghouls that want that world?
