"Accommodations are not handouts. They’re not about lowering standards. They’re about meeting the needs of the individual, removing barriers so people with diverse–yes, diverse–experiences and perspectives can build a better world."

Why have they not interviewed any doctors at Long Covid Wed to get their take on the "treatment" Deacon talks about
In a statement, CBC told me:
"After reviewing the interview, we concluded that it needed to be re-edited and re-posted to include further context and questions around the procedure and treatment Deacon experienced. That has now been done."
Will update the story with this soon.

As someone who lived in the #AIDS epicentre, I have a sense of disquieting dejà vu as I witness the stigmatizing & state level #Denial of #LongCOVID, just as previously happened to people living with #HIV/AIDS -

While the first #AIDS cases were reported in 1984-1985, it was only in 1995 that the full force of the epidemic began to be felt, & this was when a small group of us tried to break down the (sometimes deadly) #Stigma suffered by those living with #HIV/AIDS -
Ontario has stopped hosting the report of the SARS Commission. It looks like it is still available via archive-it, but this is a reminder of how vulnerable digital records that embarrass powerful people can be.

Could a “smoke alarm” for airborne contaminants monitor and improve the quality of the air indoors? (Where Americans spend 90 percent of their time!)
An interdisciplinary research team led by @linseymarr.bsky.social will create such a system that could cut respiratory illnesses by 25 percent. 👏
Health Canada puts out guidelines recommending N95s and clean indoor air!
Let’s do this!
Yes it’s overdue, and no it doesn’t address every risk factor, but we can significantly curb COVID with respirator use and clean air.
www.canada.ca/content/dam/...
If you’re feeling sick, please stay home.
If you can’t stay home, please wear a mask. Ideally an N95.
Covid is a social justice issue. Mitigations cost money. Many can’t afford the protection they need.
If you’re able, donate to a mask bloc. Carry spare respirators. Help protect each other!
Most of us who are covid conscious understand that widespread masking is not returning.
But masking in healthcare facilities should be an easy ask.
Getting folks to mask when they’re sick should be an easy ask.
Cleaning the air should be an easy ask.
It’s time we adapt!
“We are told by leaders that we are the future. But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being stolen right in front of our eyes.”
Incredible speech by Violet Affleck who warned about the ongoing dangers of COVID & Long Covid, & advocated for masks and clean air at the UN today!
"Something as simple as breathing in shared indoor spaces has become a barrier to accessibility and inclusion for millions of people, and it's time to change that!"
In this video, children and young people with Long Covid share their experiences to help others understand the reality they face every day.
Made in collaboration with young people with lived experience.

2. What is new is the societal impact of universal infection and re-infection with a pathogen that can cause cognitive dysfunction. This is why we should be careful with comparisons to past pandemics. We *must* consider the direct effect of the virus on politics and societies.

"Invisible and ignored: why indoor air quality deserves our attention. We think a lot about the food we eat and the water we drink, but rarely do we consider the air we breathe, especially when we are indoors where we spend around 90% of our lives."

We know that explaining the impact of Long Covid can be exhausting.
Please share with anyone who may need more info.
Help us raise awareness that COVID infections can lead to complex health challenges.
🌟Avoiding infection is the best way to avoid risk.

The Canadian Standards Association has drafted standards for respirators in healthcare. If this standard is adopted, respirators will be required

YLE recs for tick threat mitigation: "What does this mean for you? Wear clothes that cover your ankles and arms. Use repellent that contains 20% or more DEET, picaridin, or IR3535 on exposed skin. Do a thorough tick check, including any pets—dogs can bring ticks into your home. For kids, especially check under arms, in and around ears, in the belly button, and their hair. If you get bitten, remove the tick as quickly as possible. Unless you are experiencing symptoms, there is no need to go to the ER. If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms (fever, body aches), rash, or are having trouble removing the tick, contact your doctor."
YLE recs for the new covid surge in the US: "What to do: To minimize disruptions and protect the highest risk people, consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces, especially places like airports. Monitor for symptoms, especially if you’re visiting high-risk individuals, like grandparents in nursing homes."
"Consider." I've often explained how this word is harmful in public health messaging. Good messages tell people, using clear language, what to do/not do. "Consider" conveys that the recommendation isn’t important or won't necessarily be effective, or that the reader is exempt from compliance.

300,000 air change measurements?!
Classroom air change averaged 3.0/h (about required), but varied significantly: between schools, within each school and within each classroom throughout the year.

Students & their drivers deserve a safe & healthy ride to school, including clean air to breathe!
School buses have poor air filtration & ventilation systems (air quality = bad) 😔
Wearing a respirator mask (N95, KN95, etc) & opening windows (when the outdoor air is safe!) can make a difference!
