These things slowly being pulled from the uniforms of their subcultures isn't a bad thing (games could do with a lot LESS of these artifacts), but it does lead to very forlorn and listless "community" of people surrounding it.

There's a loneliness and specificity in us that is reflected back by VHS tapes, vinyl, retro consoles that sleek, asymptomatic, unobtrusive design just can't (and wasn't made to) replicate. I see nothing of myself in streaming services, but I see (and enjoy seeing) parts of myself in my collections.

Rather than people wanting to be inconvenienced, what they truly want is an identity. I love all the romanticism for old technology, music, games etc but truthfully people want to be connected to things that feel substantive and to express some part of their lives through showcasing that connection.

Still love Tekken and made some amazing friends through travelling and competing and I look back on the period incredibly fondly, but the whole developer/creator infrastructure for fighting games is just rotten to the core. Loving a game doesn't mean you get a guaranteed seat at the dev table.

Glad I'm not in the Tekken scene anymore. Even when sentiment for T7 was at its highest all you heard was moaning from the 'creators' because they knew they'd get money from the clicks. Now Bamco understand that having them so close to development isn't healthy for the game, team or community.

It's a fun enough game, but there's some pretty fundamental issues with its defensive skills. If you draw, then both teams lose, which makes the amount of invuln/stun/heal makes both teams less successful, rather than give anyone a particular edge.

I'm not too big a fan of 'aggressive' localisation, but it's a delicate art & it'd be great if the kids could put down the pitchforks and see how difficult Undertale and its ilk would be to localise.

In short, localisers are cool and the work is hard!!

I think more of us should be open with localisers interpretations and let go of the iron grip we have on our work. I also think kids hear about "quality checking" and think it's about how good the localisation is as if it's scored out of 100 rather than seeing if it fits within the tone and world

I find the Toby Fox localisation stuff very interesting. I don't really agree with him despite seeing where he's coming from but it's a fascinating discussion. The localisation hate brigade certainly are getting some fuel for their fire...
