Research methods activity: develop a study that would test if being a White Sox fan causes you to become an alcoholic. First time I've successfully assigned this activity to 2 students wearing White Sox gear. Win!
My little has the day off so she came to visit me at work this morning and then I took the afternoon off to play with her and I know I have tons of work to do, but she's only going to be this little once and I don't want to miss it.
We actually had a really lovely steak dinner while she ran around us. We could actually talk since she didn't care about us at all. We just checked every few minutes to make sure she hadn't broken anything, including herself.
Things my toddler (2.75) ate at her "Valentime" party at school: cupcake, rice krispie, brownie, doughnut, fruit gummies, cookies, and a juice box.
She has literally been doing laps for the last 2 hours.
I have a master's in public administration focused on nonprofit management and one of the first things we were taught was it is our job to try and make it so we don't need a job.
25 students are working in one Google form right now in class and it is pure chaos and currently "anonymous otter" is really annoyed with "anonymous capybara" for typing in their spot.
If you don't have a colleague who greets you with "Happy Vanderpump Premiere Day!", you need to find a new job.
Just got my acceptance to the SAVIR conference! Can't wait to meet so many awesome violence and injury prevention folks in person in just a few months!
Having done an evaluation of 988, the thing people like the most is the real time human interaction to help in a crisis. This is the opposite.
My toddler demanded I bring Pooh to school with me since he couldn't go to her school, so welcome to Spring semester Pooh Bear!
This is the greatest sentence I've ever read.

I've had many meetings over the past 2 weeks about firearm safety work in Illinois. I am so excited that I teach classes where I can highlight the work I am doing and get students involved in the research process to stop unnecessary deaths by firearms.
I put all of my timelines, assignment details, rubrics, etc. in separate documents that are easier for students to access on Blackboard. The syllabus is getting out of control!
Today I face my biggest struggle of each semester -- what pictures of my daughter do I put on the syllabus slides?! There are just so many to choose from! #edusky
That is the funnest fact.
Tonight my 2.5 year old was holding a cup of water in one hand and a bowl of M&Ms in the other and said "Look! I'm double fisting". #momfail
An alum reached out because he saw a video about my project featuring my students and we had an incredible meeting today to help shape policy around guns.
Universities, have students talk about their research in public forums - it is way more impactful than our stupid publication counts!
Yes, I share them all as PDFs. As a female, junior professor I do everything I can to protect myself and get the best possible evaluations.
How am I not surprised?
I just learned that my university doesn't open until TOMORROW. Why have I been sending so many emails and doing so much work today?! Oh that's right, because I never stop working.
Is it too late to make a resolution to work less in 2024?! HAHAHAHAHA That'll never happen!
At the vet with my cat and I mention there is a toddler at home and they ask when I got it. Took us several beats to figure out I was talking about a human and they assumed I was talking about another cat.
Mister Scrooge was a changed (wo)man and chose to give all the money to those less fortunate.
Merry Christmas to all!
It was the day before the day before Christmas and all through the house was a feral toddler who doesn't understand time.
Please send help!
Looks so good!
