A very difficult Friday for early career scientists.

This administration is making us dread Fridays.
That is a fundamental wrong.
TGIF is offended.
Just rude. 😑
Very excited to join this fantastic group! 🧫🦠🧪 #microbiome #openaccess
Breaking news: Thousands of researchers and their supporters, including recently fired federal workers, have gathered across the U.S. in response to layoffs and funding cuts ordered by the Trump administration. scim.ag/41zlPv4

When you do #Metagenomics and #Metaproteomics with mice fed a standard diet with Casein make sure to account for the large amount of dead L. lactis that comes with the diet

The best of multi-omics on plant microbe interactions! Very exciting work!
😱
Lab at the speakeasy
The lab dressed up, had great food and then drinks at the Speakeasy, celebrating @microberich.bsky.social leaving the lab and heading to UVA for her postdoc. World, look out for her future endeavor!
Let's increase #klebclub chatter on 🔵🦋!

Would love to be included!
A touch of mechanism
🙋♀️ would love to be added!
What an amazing celebration! Thank you all, I will miss the Lee lab and the friends made along the way.
Eubacterium rectale detoxification mechanism increases resilience of the gut environment www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.05....
Beyond thrilled to see my 2nd Chapter hot off the preprint presses! This project examines Eubacterium rectale for alleviation of gut epithelium ROS damage through biosynthesis of the antioxidant glutathione. Check it out! #microbiomesky #IBD #microsky 🧪🧫
Very exciting to host our seminar speaker and one of my mentors @manuelkleiner.bsky.social! Thanks for coming by and discussing some great science 🧪 🦠🧫🧬 #Microsky #PhDsky
In this study we show that microbial contamination in common mouse diets can lead to incorrect conclusions about microbiome composition.

A very interesting book comes to mind here “The demon under the microscope” goes into the development of sulfas and the surrounding historical context! WWII had quite the impact on sulfa development.
We are now moving into mechanistic study! Descriptive microbiome to mechanism in the works - stay tuned for my other chapters coming soon!! #MicrobiomeSky
Next, to prove that, we isolated and cultured these MAGs and showed that they can indeed use cysteine. We also showed that MAGs/isolates from dysbiotic mice can used cysteine more effectively for growth than MAGs/isolates from healthy mice.
I performed network analyses showing the high association of host cysteine metabolizing genes and MAGs of interest. This drives our thought that the MAGs may be “stealing” valuable cysteine from the host.
We found that IL-10KO vertical transmitted dysbiotic mice are scavenging for cysteine that may aid in gut immune homeostasis. On the other hand, we assembled MAGs, and found several MAGs that are highly detected in dysbiotic mice have genomic capability of metabolizing cysteine.
So excited that my thesis first chapter is live in ASM's
#mSystems journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/... We use a bunch of techniques to show that gut microbial populations may be “stealing” valuable amino acids from the mice host, resulting in persistent gut inflammation! #PhDSky #MicroSky 🧪🦠🧫🧬
Excited to see this article now online! Bringing attention to the need of revolutionizing cancer treatments and how our gut microbes may play a role in personalized care! 🦠🧪🧫www.nasw.org/article/nasw-science-wri... #SciComm #PhDSky
