Here's something I made for a LARP system back in 2019 - they just asked for the cards, but I decided to do them out of balsa wood instead of paper, and then decided they needed a cool box just for fun. Painted with acrylics and then varnished so that they'd hold up.

My folks chose to prioritise paying off the mortgage asap, which meant that when I was a kid they were super careful with money, but suddenly in my teens, we were flush and able to go on cool trips and get laptops and all sorts like that. So I have a hard time saying whether we were well off or not.

I got the Nokia when I started middle school and would be walking home on my own. I didn't have any texting plan, absolutely no data, just calling.

The laptop was a gift when I started high school - it was mostly meant to be for homework, but teenagers gonna teenager, amirite?

I was 15-turning-16 in 05, so just outside your range, but if it's helpful:

1. I had my mum's hand-me-down Nokia brick
2. I had a laptop which I wasn't supposed to use in my bedroom. (I did.) My friends were on aim, msn, live journal and deviantart.
3. Middling somewhere??? I think?????

I ordered a new mug for the season and instead the printer sent me eight of these Vashwood ones I didn't want to restock anymore.

Now I'm speculating whether to have them refunded (they'd be destroyed, I hate waste) or would anyone be willing to get them off my hands?

A set of five digital sketches of critters. They're all very loosely done, with colours overlapping the edges, and visible initial sketches and imperfect lines. All of the critters are semi-anthropomorphic animals, standing on their hind legs. I've been saving these bad boys up for today! There's only a few prompts that I knew in advance what I wanted to do with, and this was one of 'em (the folder these guys sit in is called "Critters", even!)

She's leaning back against the apple tree, with her eyes closed and a faintly content smile on her face, hands folded on her lap. The pig is clearly also sleeping. While the pig and the character have outlines, the background elements are all painted in a lineless style. There's the apple tree that the character is leaning against, and behind that, a rose bush, and behind that a wall of a stone cottage, with two windows diamond panes of glass. There's handwritten text in the bottom right corner that says "IllustratedJai 2013."

Somehow, i haven't used fruit in my art in ages - had to go waaayyy back to this piece from 2013! The ghost of a friend's LARP character under an apple tree that was planted in her memory.

The willow tree is in a grassy lawn which takes up about two thirds of the background and is borded with other, less clearly defined greenery. The final third of the background is a dark asphalt driveway, which is where Jack is standing, pointing his hose at some of the less well-defined greenery. Colleen and Jack have been drawn with crisp lines, but the background has been painted using chunky textured brushes.

Here's one from a set of cards I did for my mum of her and my dad doing ordinary everyday things - the set included reading on the back deck, hiking up one of the local hills, goofing off while washing the car, and this one, doing the garden chores.

Text: Between Two Membranes Look closer. All of this– the words in bird song follow-me, follow-me the unfolding in my chest when the earth tilts into the sun a few hours longer, the greenhouse scent of warm, wet soil, the urge to thrust my fingers in, the tug in my gut at the dandelions forcing through paving stones the fractal tree of memories exploding from the robin that lands nearby– all of this exists in a three nanometer gap, with no difference between a sodium ion, a lightning bolt, and a ghost.

Day 16 - Colourful

Going for both actually colourful, and also, like, "a colourful cast of characters" - this was a comm for a group of the player characters from the LARP I reffed a few years back!

Text: Hand-Sewing When the fabric is taught the needle punctures, drags the thread like schunk-schoo, schunk-schoo, schunk-schoo, stitches bold, solid, hands mechanical, mind somewhere away to the side but when it stretches, frays, bunches, slips away from the needle’s point, you become a tiny bird, carrying each stitch, like twigs, arranged in a row that may blow away on a breeze.
