But don't many apps still collect quite a lot of data regardless of permissions for things like usage analytics? I imagine it's quite difficult to find an app developed by a business that doesn't use Google analytics somehow

Over the weekend I installed #ArchLinux for the first time and I’ve really enjoyed the process of setting up my machine just the way I like it. I have so much to learn, but forcing myself to use Arch has really accelerated my learning.

Things like this make me question my career path

Prescribing LLMs and AI as a one size fits all, totally ubiquitous tool in the workplace is fundamentally misguided and likely more expensive than most senior leaders recognize. Just because something is trending does not make it a panacea for your organizations woes

Every executive and their dog is insisting on everyone “finding ways to leverage AI, LLMs, copilot” or some other flavor of AI hype in their workflows but so many workflows have no need for complicated LLMs. Like I am literally building a rule engine, I do not need it to write fucking poetry

For the #dataengineers that see this, how bad would it be for a sizable bank to host all of its most important prod data on an instance of Postgres 9? I’m curious as it is a very old, unsupported version but I don’t actually know if it’s necessarily a bad thing or not
