Green rosellas, a Tasmanian endemic, sometimes look rather drab compared to other rosellas. But this one on approach for a landing shows some lovely shades of blue. This time of year they're working hard a aerating the lawn, digging up grass and onion grass bulbs.

When you're on the tram at night, trying to see your stop, these things are truly evil.

It's rare to admire one of the big consultancies but good on them for this. A racist-free festival would be nice, but she's apparently too fashionable to omit.

Australia has a parliamentary system, compulsory voting, preferential voting and the Australian Electoral Commission, which draws up the districts and oversees the elections, which are conducted with a small paper ballot for the House of Representatives and a huge one for the Senate. Works well.

Not just a war with Europe. Canada is a NATO member. Maybe they should move troops to the border as a precaution.

I returned to Melbourne from Flinders Island yesterday and missed the visit of this swift parrot. Don't know if it's the same bird we saw there in June but pretty nice to have around! #rarebirds #birds #Australianbirds #parrots #Tasmanianbirds

Clearly the magpie thinks she's booked the pool and is explaining this to the two green rosellas. Not sure how it was resolved. #ausbirds #australianbirds #Tasmanianbirds #parrots

Another currawong, demonstrating the graceful way the come in for a landing. It worked, though. #australianbirds #tasmanianbirds

Thanks! They're native to Australia but not to Tasmania; they were introduced and are a problem for our little birds. But it's hard to hate kookaburras (unless you're small and made of meat).

Here's the kookaburra a bit after the last shot, deciding that the little birds buzzing him were too annoying. #kookaburra #australianbirds #tasmanianbirds

We don't usually get kookaburras at our watering spot on Flinders Island, but this one dropped by. The little wrens, firetails and small honeyeaters were not too pleased by the visitor and he soon took off. #kookaburra #australianbirds #kingfishers #tasmanianbirds

That's all anyone needs to know about the Trump "state visit".

He really needs to be given a dementia assessment where his staff don't answer the questions for him. Not a well man.

We hadn't finished pruning our fig tree and a pair of rainbow lorikeets were taking turns sharing a leftover figs last week. During summer, the lorikeets, fruit bats, possums and possibly a rat or two all enjoy them. We may even get one or two.

Our wildlife camera caught this swift parrot on Flinders Island two weeks ago. This time I'll add the hashtags to the post. Wish we'd been there to see it.

We were in Melbourne but one of our wildlife cameras caught a swift parrot sitting next to the water on Flinders Island, Tasmania. Wish I'd been there but this is pretty good too.

On Flinders Island, Tasmania last night they kept trying to push the windows in--massive (for a moth). Nice snacks for the mopokes!

And in Australia, where they were introduced, they're a major pest. Not quite flying cane toads but close.

He shares the Orange Man's (and Scotty from Marketing's) ability to lie effortlessly and since apparently no one in journalism has enough of a science or engineering background to call him on it, the lies stand.

This young cassowary came by our lodgings in the Daintree in October. Apparently we just missed a visit by his (?) parents. They're pretty good evidence that birds are actually theropod dinosaurs.

Australia should do the same but it won't happen if our Trump mini-me gets in as PM.
