Yes, the MSX2 has full screen vertical hw scrolling.
For the horizontal scroll, it has a 4bit screen offset, similar to the C64 3bit offset (but without the border masking).
The MSX2+ improved it further with full screen horizontal scroll, with border masking.

Ok, got it about the arcade controls (I've never seen the real arcade). No problem, just I have to train a bit more. 🙂
But I really like to use the real SMS to play games. My main unit is a fat model with FM+turbo+RGBmod, but I also have nearly all other models with different VDPs, for dev testing.
It’s a (poor) port of the SMS game. Apparently they were more ambitious when the project began, but just rushed to finish it.
I struggle with the way the low/high gear was implemented.
Maybe an alt control to use up/down to change between high/low gears, and the left button to break?
BTW, support for the MD controller START button for pausing would also be very welcome.
(note: not criticizing, it's just a suggestion)
BTW, I really would love to see an MSX2 (or 2+) game from you. :)
If you send me the files, I can try to upload them there.
Probably the easiest way is to upload them to WeTransfer and share the link here. (Need to select the "create link" option).
Also available for the MSX2:

Nice art again!
Please share a link for the original file, so we can appreciate it on our real MSXs. :)

Tip: There's also a patch to add support for smooth scrolling on the MSX2+. 😉
The FS-A1 mk2 was contemporary to the HB-F1 II.
Respectively, the Panasonic and Sanyo machines contemporary to the HB-F1XD were the FS-A1F and PHC-55FD.
True. :)
BTW, are you playing the real MSX, versions, or the ports of the MGS Collection?
The tip is that the ports have worse sound and frame rate. You’re better off playing the original ROMs, with the turbofix patch applied.
Hey, calm down 😅. That’s a 1987 game, so judging it by modern standards makes as much sense as judging a car from the 50s by modern standards…
True, it has some issues, but what else from 1987 gives you that kind of experience?
The IBM-PC also had crappy scrolling in the 80s.
It would be nice to know which games had hidden the messages you post.
There were plenty of mouse models available for the MSX.
But the one in the picture has a male DE-9 connector with flanges, so it doesn’t look to be made for the MSX.
The original MSX3 was intended to be released in 1987, and would have the Z280 CPU and the V9978 VDP.
The Z280 also has some a nifty support for many coprocessors, in a way that’s much quicker than the x86 of that era.
Ahem… She was the official Sony game mascot back in the 80s
No need for a transistor. Just connect the A15 from the MSX to the A14 of the ROM and you’re ready to go.
The Trace Viewer in action after running my profiler script in Tcl.
I created a profiler with some lines of Tcl script thanks to OpenMSX new Trace Viewer. It's easy to use and doesn't require the programmer to insert INs and OUTs in his code, so it works with old ROMs too. #openMSX #msx #tcl #debugging #gamedev #profiler #homebrew #8bit
Yours is safe. The only MSX2+ computers that have that HIC1 daughterboard were made by Sony.
BTW, if you want to add the internal FM chip to your A1FX, there's an article here:
www.msxinfo.net/2013/06/15/a...
What model is it? If it's one of the models that has the EMC-NX0039 aka "HIC1" daughterboard, you might need to replace its elcaps ASAP:

256x212
Basically, to install it you just have to unzip it into a folder on your SDcard, like SOFARUN, and run it from there.
What kind of issues do you still have?
Yep. For the MSX models that don’t have the space for an internal FM chip, that’s the best choice.
But for those where it can be installed internally, this will save you from using an external slot.
