Happy morning at NAA. The walk from the bus stop was glorious and the files, well, I can at least say I looked at them. Not as useful as I hoped. But always good to spend a few hours in the archive.

I constantly write 1945 or whatever today. Unless I am writing the date of a document I'm citing. Then it is inevitably 2026. So I am just permanently confused.

I certainly agree with you! I love Canberra and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Except perhaps when it hits -10 in the middle of winter!🤣🤣🤣

Another glorious Canberra evening. Bit of the smoke haze from local burn off which tickles my eyes. A small price to pay for such a peaceful head-clearing walk.

So I guess fish and chicken will be on the family menu from now on, but, in reality, the family will get Byron's left overs. Of course, every person who is owned by a cat knows that that is the rule.

#histbookchat early morning sun streaming through the window. Reading in bed. Gaining a new perspective on the ANZAC legend. Some excellent work here.

Proud to have contributed. Originally an @avculturesconf.bsky.social / The Second International Conference on Aviation Archaeology and Heritage conference paper (November 2024), my chapter examines the mangroves crash site & material remains of Hudson A16-191, & how it and its crew are remembered.

I often rest on the reformer. My argument is that just lying down on it, and not moving, is good for you.

Another glorious day in Canberra. Morning tea on the coffee shop veranda. Those vegan muffins were so huge we won't need lunch. Or afternoon tea.

It has been a huge team effort over many years, but the Australian War Memorial's new Anzac Hall is open. This includes "Kandahar Workhorse". It was a great privilege to meet many Chinook veterans & family members, & share their untold stories of bravery & loss, professionalism & humour.

Back in February I presented a paper about Clive Caldwell at the @avculturesconf.bsky.social Print the Legend ‘searchlight’ event. I discussed his photo albums & how Caldwell used them to narrate his service. I've posted the script on my blog. kristenalexanderauthor.blogspot.com/2026/04/fram...

It’s starting to get cool here in the evening and miss Millie has started snuggling up on the big bed.

Flipping through my Wings collection, looking for an article I knew was there, somewhere. Finally found it in this one. Don't you just love the cover art? It's Wings' second birthday issue, 17 April 1945! Today is almost, but not quite, Wings' 83rd birthday!

Now that sounds like a fun day out! The buns go well in the freezer, too, so HCB for months!

Oh dear. And there was me the other day recycling an old photo for a recent story. Guess I am following a tradition! But at least recycled cake pics won't potentially change historic appreciation or create a myth like these - and other - recycled pics!

Pleasure, then business. Or at least work that turned into pleasure! Bookplate raspberry bread and a catch up. And then a flip through some 1980s issues of Contact, the RAAFA Victorian Division magazine. Some good stuff!

I know I should have relaxed over the Easter weekend but really, I just wanted to score some runs. And boy, wasn't it productive! Submitted one article; signed author's agreement for another, finished Chapter 40 (but I do have to read through) and mapped out Chapter 41. And I ate cake and scones!

There's nothing wrong with this! Excellent way to solve the can't do problem. We are so used to this with half and half pizzas that it makes absolute sense to extend it to pavs. Looks delicious.

Another example of historical ignorance or ... never let the truth get in the way of a good story or a popular quiz!

#histbookchat excellent book. It is really enlightening about the quieter Vietnam protest movement. Published by New South so readily available in Australia.
